    That makes the behaviour even odder - I would have expected full research to be a given with that background.

    Take a novated lease on the car, that may help serviceablity. still be pushing it though.

    Seek out peer to peer lender

    Find a guarantor (may be a big ask)

    Being an engineer myself, I can tell you it means little about the financial literacy and understanding of such individuals.

    I wasn't assuming financial literacy, just a methodical approach to research and lending protocol.

    Even if he could come up with the deposit the loan approval may no longer work if he is taking on additional borrowings - it may no longer service.

    Vendor finance for the remaining $30k with an attractive interest rate for the Vendor, to be repaid after say; 2 years with a refinance on the exisiting Bank loans?

    Come on, GG - can't you stump up the $30k for him at 10% interest? ;):D
