    I'm very happy at the moment and thought i'd share some pretty great news on a personal front.

    My partner (Zerlin) and I got engaged over the weekend. I believe many the Sydneysiders would've met her at one of the earlier SS meets and would largely agree that I should well and truly be excited (she's pretty wonderful!).

    I've been running around for over a month now planning an elaborate proposal, so it's nice to have it all settled - and get a yes! We've been together for basically my entire adult life and she'd been giving me pretty significant hints for well over a year now.

    We also got a new place together and have already started making joint plans/goals for our next chapter. Am sure it will involve growing the portfolio quite rapidly over the next 5 years (before little ones come along). She loves this stuff and has a much better eye for it than me (i look at spreadsheets, she looks at the property), so fingers crossed it all works out well!

    (But also commiserations.) I'm getting married in October and while I'm looking forward to that, the wedding planning part has been waaaay more work than I ever imagined. People either don't reply to you and/or charge exuberant prices. For example we had a quote of a simple wedding cake for $595 plus GST.
    Every tiny thing costs extra. Our venue wants to charge $700 for drapes that are always up and only if you call their bluff and tell them to remove them then, will they leave them up for free. Or $50 for an easel that's always there anyway.

    But don't focus on all that crap for now. The way I'm looking at it is that my partner lets me buy as many houses all around Australia as I want and even comes along to help me pick. She let's me buy solar panels, LEDs, build a pond, etc. So if it's her dream to have a (to me) sinfully expensive wedding that's going to cost $20k, then so be it, she's certainly worth it.

    Redom- I suggest you get a depreciation schedule done up...using accelerated depreciation methods.

    I am interested in hearing about wedding plans, will it be overseas?? Seems to be a very big trend at the moment. Perhaps its cheaper, don't know???
