Fire Prevention systems

    Hi
    Just after some advice.
    We are looking at buying 50 odd acres with in a bushfire management overlay area.
    just winding if there specific regulations if you need a
    Fire fighting system around the house to prevent against ember attack or around the lands etc like a
    1000 litre fire trailers etc?

    any help is appreciated?

    I'm not sure if all states are the same, but up here in QLD there's a variety of issues associated with it. The biggest thing is that you need a clearing around the house of a certain radius. Also, the further the radius the lower the "BAL" requirements will be. BAL requirements can be things like non-flammable construction materials, screens to the windows, etc.

    It's quite complicated and you should really contact the council and possibly a chatty certifier for clarification.

    A bushfire consultant is the way to go, they will assess your BAL (not just a stab in the dark) and recommend a system which will tick all of the boxes (& make it safe) - eg roof sprinklers, blockable guttering, clearing, SS mesh on windows, enclosing under the house/verandas, steel plate to exterior doors etc.
