School holidays are around the corner and we have booked no holidays. I am thinking of booking a 10 day family holiday to Fiji in mid Jan-2018. We have a 9 year old and a 2 year old to entertain. Any suggestions on the best way to book this holiday? Should I book a holiday package with e.g. Virgin/Jetstar or am I better off booking the flights and hotels separately. The only reason I am shying away from booking a holiday package is, I don't want to be stuck in a resort in Nadi the whole time, I want to see bit of the country. We are flying out of Sydney. Feel free to suggest alternative destinations or your experience in Fiji around Jan.... thanks
I have taken the family to Thailand before, but never been to Fiji. Also the shorter flight to Fiji is much preferred with the kids in tow. I didn't know it was wet season in Fiji in Jan. Should I be concerned?
I believe Fiji is fairly good all year round, but if there's a time when you do need to worry about the weather, it's January.
Fijian resort is nice on the coral coast . Well set up for kids . We've had a bit of a look around the country side , but it's just another third world coral island with dirty towns , so personally I wouldn't go their for a site seeing tour . Go there for the resorts , but it's more expensive than say Bali , and the resorts aren't as nice ( 4 star vs 5 star , food good but not as nice as Bali ) , but the flights shorter and not overnight on the way back . Don't stay at the Warwick ..... one of a very few places we would never go back to. Cliff
Bali would have been my pick too, but went there 2 years back, so wanted to go somewhere new. Also the recent volcanic activities are a worry, especially when travelling with kids.
Agreed. Potential for bargains though for the same reason. Not as exotic but you could try something in oz eg whitsundays(storm season tho), broome, south coast etc.
Perhaps leaving it a bit late for xmas school holidays, but, If your on the East Coast, maybe see if you can get on a last minute cruise that goes to a few of the Fijian Islands. My folks took us as kids on one back in the late 70's, one of the best holidays we had, lots of fun on the ship even back then compared to what's available today, short day trips onshore were enough for us little-ones, we get tired and grumpy easily. All inclusive so more of a holiday for you. Cruise Sale Finder | Find Cheap Cruise Deals With Australia's Trusted Specialists
