As the title says, he is moving with his wife to USA (Portland). Keeping in mind the weight issues, the only thing I could think of is a giftcard.

However, I don't know which card I should go for and where can I buy those from. Is there any place I can get my hands on a physical card? Else, email card is fine.

    Suggestions please.

You should be able to buy these directly in shop too.

Its in AUD currency and there is a surcharge of 3% on the amount.
I will keep that option in mind.

    A beer and dinner.

Honestly! I move around a lot, and the best 'gift' someone can give me is a good night out. Its social, fun, relaxing and means a whole lot more than any material gift.

Not to mention the hassles of trying to move (more) *stuff* when you are actively trying to get rid of most of it.

Depending on how much you want to spend:

    - Amazon and other larger retailers do the cards online
    - Limo travel to the airport
    - Night at a CBD hotel or somewhere like Taronga Zoo/Q Station

If all fails, they are welcome to take my offsprings.;)

There is also the travel card where you can choose your currency as USD.

But I think Blacky's idea of a dinner farewell is a better option than a gift card. It will mean more and be memorable as well.
