That reminds me, I got house full of furniture etc even family photos, bills..... one of my tenants left everything behind.

I had to pay for storage for 3 months, she never came to collect it. I just donated the lot to St Vinnies.

Another tenant did the same, but came back, this one was very selective, left junk behind, fortunately got rid of it painlessly

I once bought yellow tail shiraz instead of Penfolds. Still plays on my mind to this day.

I see a very first world view of the things here.
It is 'still' very common to wash (rather than wipe) your bum after the act in my home country. Some have the cool bum washers (bidet spray) to make a bit more hygienic.
Back in the days when I visited countryside in India, I and my cousins would find a lake and do the act!

Regarding reusing stuff, we still do it.
My older daughters clothes/shoes go to her cousin in India and then circles back to my younger one. Its not about saving money, its about less waste and recycling.

My clothes go to my nephews and nieces (yes they like wearing my tees). Our gadgets are recycled to my family/relatives or anyone from our village, who need it. I steal the kitchen utensils from them ;)

We humans will pick convenience for an easier life
    Does this make us wasteful???

I am definitely wasteful, I use a dishwasher, but its convenient

I used disposable nappies, wasteful? Most will probably did/do the same

gee quality like that in Australia getting rare , some start to fall apart after the first wash , one reason i like to buy from the charity shops ( they come pre-shrunk and washing machine tested even if never previously worn

    SOMETIMES cheaper as well

You'll be happy to learn modern dishwashers are more energy-efficient than hand washing.

@MTR I'm thankful for people like you who spend a lot of money on things that are not a necessity. You lot keep the economy going and are the reason my shares pay dividend. I was hoping that Covid doesn't make everyone realise they don't need too much to be happy.

Here's some of my 'extreme cheap skating' behaviour:
    • I load my dishwasher at night but program it to run at mid-day so it uses solar energy. - my electricity bill this quarter was $2 ;).
    • I pack home made lunches to work and don't have pub lunches with colleagues - I'd rather save the money and take my wife out for dinner.
    • I've had the same mobile phone for 4 years and same laptop for 8 years - hasn't negatively affected my communication.
    • I've installed a bidet to wash my but - feels cleaner and I didn't have to fight for toilet paper during covid.
    • I've recently bought a sewing machine - hope to mend my clothes rather than though them out.
These things are not going to make me rich but I feel like I've learnt to be happy without spending too much money.

I feel proud to say that I'm also saving the environment with many of my tightars ways.

I try not to use extra plastic bags and take too long a shower. A lot of Abbey's old clothes I send to charity. But that's about it for me. I'm gonna enjoy the conveniences of life.

I try not to be wasteful, for both environmental and monetary reasons. However, there's one trend I can't see myself ever getting on board with:

@Sackie did you bother getting reusable nappies? We've got one on the way, stocked up on reusable nappies, all the second hand baby clothes, second hand pram etc, our baby will be living the good life :D

My wife wanted to get second hand used nappies, and NO! that's where I draw the line haha

P.s. Can I have all your used baby clothes, toys etc for free? You seem to be a man with exquisite taste :p

Its not exclusive .... you can be happy with or with out money, but I know which I would prefer, cos I started off with nothing, like most here I expect

I wonder why we want to learn and why we are even bothered with property forums?? Its OK to want to grow wealth, Infact we can help people if we do this

As far as being wasteful..... convenience will sadly make us all wasteful to some degree

    Over packaging is a disgrace

We used MCU (modern cloth nappies) for our 3, to varying degrees. I think for our first we used them always when at home, but rarely when we went out/travelled. With the twins we used them about 90% of the time. With 3 kids, you pretty much cant get a "normal" hotel room anyway, so it was generally a serviced appartment (and subsequently AirBnB) where you have a washer and dryer anyway, so no big deal.

    Cheers,
    Inertia.

I've decided to also go minimalist and stopped many wasteful activities.
I no longer do any washing or cleaning with those awful toxic chemicals.
And I no longer use the even worse weed killing sprays and pesticides.
So I got a housekeeper and a gardner.
