Front and back no, side to side is allowed though if that one is demolished...
He's better off collecting all the positive cashflow out of it for a few years first though due to the land values in that suburb.

See what Bunnings & Masters have on their mistint rack, might be something suitable for 1/2 price

@D.T. and @Corey Batt ... noted. That's a shame. Stick to single dwelling site then as you both indicate.

Brick edge at exactly 45 degrees?
That's masterclass best left for your Don Bourkes &Jamie what's his name the ex male stripper guy?
Sleeper soldiers are similar but look good.

Starting out go with a theme. Cottage , japanese, mediterranean, formal are some. Google cottage and get recommended plants design ideas.

That way its not hodge podge in 5 years like alot of gardens.

Depending on where you're located, some tips have mulch for free.
Take out a load of crap, come back with free mulch.

Bonus points if there's a rusting out VN Commodore water feature (busted water meter under the car body).

That's why you need side access! More storage for car parts and pot plants

@joel This is taken from google streetview of a place in same suburb as yours...

Looks effective enough without being ugly and also very easy to maintain (since most tenants aren't very good at that).

You look a lot tidier shaved @Corey Batt

Magpies post made me rethink the drive, you could get free pavers or bricks from Gumtree, throw em down on a bed of sand.
Personally I hate pavers etc, ants, weeds, sinking etc, I'm a ding at hart, concrete for me.
