This was me sitting on the trainer last weekend for 12hrs raising money for Smiling for Smiddy. Was using a program called Zwift which varies the resistance of the trainer (Wahoo Kickr) to mimic those of uphill/downhill/drafting on a chosen course. Its a live program and you can ride with and race others from around the world at any time of the day.

potentially ridiculous suggestion that requires too much space: an elliptical. we bought a schwinn second-hand off gumtree and it's been awesome. easy to switch from lower body effort to upper body effort (or obviously a mixture of the two)

No they're great. I've got one in the home gym and use it all the time. I thought about getting one for the office too - you're right about the space though, the bike is just a bit more practical.

Looks like you can get under the desk elipticals :)

    Cheers

    I did say try :)

Last night I did 100 but with 22 m (length of helideck) sprints between sets of 5 . Great way to get to max heart rate.

You need the keyboard to sign in, and you can talk to other riders in 'chat' and give them Kudos etc.

Yeah I reckon it's a great idea - just something to get the blood flowing/body moving while at the desk.

Have you considered some step up boxes?

For me, the biggest problem with desk sitting is shoulders though, so I would add something like this into my routine in conjunction with the box step up:
    Arms.png
    image 1 is start position
image 2 as you step up
image 3 on top of the box
image 4 as you step down
    image 5 finishing position

Just remember to switch your leading leg on alternate step ups. I reckon it would take a bit of coordination. I'm going to try it. :)

@Simon Hampel is on the money with the height-adjustable desk.

I was scrolling down to say exactly the same thing. A few step ups every hour.

    Forget an exercise bike.

Spin bikes are a part of my normal exercise routine - I probably wouldn't only go on one for <30 mins however.

There's some OK bikes which float in quality level between basic amateur and commercial grade, like the Vortec 900's (Sub 1k all up).

Go for a run around the block instead mate. ;)
