    Oh, almost forgot.

The reason I went with VGS/VISM is that in the absence of the franking credit advantage from Oz shares, I’d rather go with better total return.

An even more sensible alternative might be VDHG. The dividend return isn’t far off WDIV, capital growth is higher, you get some franking credits, and you are much more diversified.

I have WDIV in our trust portfolio. Purchased most of them when the Aussie dollar was parity with the USD or there abouts which was a good move, better value for money.
I don't intend to sell the shares, but rather my children will benefit from the income one day as I have done.
The dividends have been some what lumpy from year to year, but I have been more than happy receiving them.
It does give international diversification which was what I was after. I have a large Aussie representation for dividend income, so WDIV made sense at the time.
I will probably purchase VGS in the future when the price is right for a more balanced international total return approach as many have done on this forum.

I will be looking to add to my international ETF's soon.

What are the considerations when looking at hedged as opposed to unhedged Funds, particularly
with the current low exchange rate and the possible interest rate cuts?

    From The Fool

How I’d invest $50,000 into ASX ETFs
    • Vanguard FTSE Asia Ex Japan Shares Index ETF VAE – $15,000
    • BetaShares Australia 200 ETF A200 – $5,000
    • Vanguard MSCI Index International Shares ETF VGS – $20,000
    • Vanguard Australian Fixed Interest Index ETF VAF – $10,000

Being a cranky curmudgeon I'd go $50k VGS and stuff the rest. Simple, uncomplicated and straightforward.

He’s just paid by Fool to pump out regular articles. If he followed his own (What I’d invest in ....) advice he’d have a completely new portfolio every couple of weeks:rolleyes:.

I’ve recently bought in via a listed fund and a managed fund.

Given that, over the long term, I expect peformance to be about the same, I prefer the placid certainty of the managed fund.

It was annoying to have to stuff around buying the listed fund and watching the share price go up and down. Partly in response to my orders I suspect.

It will be equally annoyin if I ever sell.

In contrast the investment in the managed fund (despite Vanguard’s antediluvian process) was dead simple.

Australia’s best ETF: Vanguard’s VAS or VanEck’s MVW?

Most money in Aussie ETFs is in Australian share ETFs. These are products that give exposure to the biggest Australian companies and aim to take the hash out of stock picking.

Two of the best in the business are the Vanguard Australian Shares Index ETF (VAS) and the VanEck Vectors Australian Equal Weight ETF (MVW). Both of which have tens of millions of dollars in monthly flows and strong investor followings.

But what are the important differences between the two? And what should investors considering MVW and VAS keep in mind when making a decision?

Interesting to watch developments in this area.

    And a point of order.

If the LIC thread has been split to 2019 what hasn't the same been done to this one? Grrr bloody favoritism. I'm outraged as is my right.

STW is more concerned about their shareholders so only lower their fee kicking and screaming, That’s why I switched to VAS quite some time ago, a very different fee conscious model.
