Hi all plumbers and knowledgeable people

With this corona malarkey I'll hopefully have some time to hook up my ensuite

We stole some room from the kids bedroom to build a narrow ensure :)

I just need some of the details for residential plumbing. I'm all good cutting in a junction just need the shower, basin and toilet connected.
    1. Do I need a floor waste? Open to ground?
    2. Do all points need S bends, shower , basin
    3. IO between toilet and junction 20200323_200933.jpg

Plumbing is a licensed trade for a reason.. attempting to do your own sewerage work is not only illegal but just silly. Cheers, Elives

I've actually withdrawn from a sale because unauthorised sewerage work had been done on a house. My inspector advised that it was a potential minefield, it was done in a way that faults could not be rectified.

Have you already followed all legal requirements for an ensuite, even before you do the plumbing? Not to do so could cause problems later. Not just selling - insurance could be affected.

The world's gone corona mad!

Mine is very simple with easy access. I'll just find a local plumber to sign it off

Why not get a local plumber to do the work, and you do the labour? I'd think it would not be easy to find any plumber willing to sign something off they didn't do?

Illegal building works to modify the house internals made worse by illegal plumbing, waterproofing and electricals too I guess. And done wrong you may even kill someone. What do you know about sewer gas traps ?

Hope you plan to live there forever. May be really hard to sell. Council can order works demolished.

That's what I'll do. They can charge for the paperwork part and I'll pay. Just need to get it right.... which some people don't believe is possible

The "nanny state" is everywhere unfortunately. What happened to having a go, with some helpful input. I could easily bang anything in but I'm not

I'd get the plumber out now to give you the lowdown, follow his instructions then get him to sign off.

    I believe shower no S - vanity yes S.
I think if you use a channel grate along the long side of the shower closest to the vanity then you might not need an additional floor waste. However sometimes there is also another point near the toilet so you may still need 2.

    geez tough crowd.
not a plumber but a surveyor, i could calculate the grade, volume discharge rate and get it straight for you.

how many of these jobs do you reckon were done in the 50s & 60s around marrickville, lebkemba, leichhardt

i say whack it in mate, if it backs up block it off.
you can lay the big pipes, check out the residential regs, its all about scale

but surely you have a plumber mate, everyone has.

oh yeah i forgot. be careful of your fall.
Minimum fall for sewer is 1.65% which works out to be 16mm every metre.
caveat: but i'm not a plumber

The larger the diameter pipe, the flatter they can run.

IIRC, ensure that the fall is away from the fixtures sad $#** doesn't flow uphill until someone stuffs up ;)

I suggest asking this query (perhaps start with a search) over at the excellent Renovate Forums

People will still suggest ‘get a plumber’ - but there’s a lot more people on that site who are hands-on renovators. And a whole sub forum on plumbing with many threads on traps and drains for basins, showers etc.
