Yes it is fiddling while rome burns, but making outrageous statements like that doesn't help the cause, but could hinder it.

I dont think you could put a percenatage of the population figure. It does happen but not as much as some of these charities report. Somaly man has been exposed as a fraud and another charity exposed by taking photos of a young girl and reporting that she was a former sex slave when she was a paid model. Also many of the orpahns in orpahages have 2 parents.

 

Obviously an old thread but a concept with which I agree. I have my budget for donations, do not give to the song and dance acts in public places or to pleas for funds from various call centres (how they got my mobile is beyond me!) Nor do I respond to any requests received by snail mail.

Use certain dates (birthdays, etc) as a trigger for my preferred charities which are those which address:

Mental health;
Domestic Violence;
Homelessness
Medical research; and
Medical care provided internationally.

My Will also has provisions to distribute funds to those causes.
