See this story, woman has a decision to make, they are painting as hard, I think I know what a chunk of PC would do.....

    What would you do ?

Saw an article recently about gold bullion stolen from a house worth $70k, bought in the 1980's for $20k. Got me thinking what would $20ki invested in property in the 80's be worth now...

Take the Gold, sell it, pay off my PPOR, convert the rest into dividend paying shares. Too easy.

Edit: i'll also buy a $400k house in Adelaide. Go and use it every now and then. :)

For the reasons of, why not?

From a lazy point of view, given that's it's a free $2mil, id take the apartment.

Add it to the portfolio. Call up my property manager and hand him the keys and say 'just the usual, thanks'

Then I'd get on with life.

    Take the gold.
Then engage a ba and buy a house with the gold

But you may have a little CGT problem when you come to sell.

I purchased five tickets to this draw :p

I would take the apartment and sell it immediately. Would pay off our IP, buy another one, retire (from 9-5 work, would still freelance) and travel the world on the income

My father always said, "4 to 40 years is a bad age for kids "
I regularly poke him in the ribs and repeat it back to him and say STILL HERE :p

But it might only be a home with average growth...I would want to control what the investment is.

Ps. The RSL is the winner... that's 10 mill in ticket sales.

Gold. I don't like apartments. They are fine when the building is new. When the building is older, not so good.

With agent fees and all other fees to sell the apartment, might be more cost effective to get the gold and sell it instead.

I'll take the gold, sell it and put the money in shares, Would pay off some home loan but LVR is already very low.

Anyway, when is the next draw? :)

I guess so. I don't know much about gold trading so the apartment just seemed like a simpler option. I doubt I'll be making the decision any time soon :p

$2 million dollar apartment near/at the peak of the market? I'd be more worried about a CL problem depending on when you planned to sell.

I'd take the gold, sell most of it and invest in various assets which aren't so close to the peak of their cycle (as the Sydney apartment is likely to be).
