Hello, Does anyone have any experience/recommendations for debt collectors in WA. What sort of rates/fees do they usually charge? How reliable are they? Does having a court order for the debt help (and worth doing before engaging debt collector)? Any info or experiences appreciated ;) Cheers

Is this for a tenant debt or something else?

We use barclays , we're a member so they don't charge anything for the individual recovery/collections. They need the tenants application form (because has hints on how to track down the tenant on there) and the court/tribunal order (because thats the amount they're allowed to chase). They lodge it with magistrate court and it becomes an official debt - ie they will hunt down where they are now located, garnish wages, setup payment arrangements, etc.

Otherwise i think they charge an admin fee plus percentage of the recovery amount. Depending on the amount, this may or may not be worthwhile for you.

They vary depending on the person and how hard you want to push it. Some blokes send a letter for 38.50 and that is it. Law firms are more effective but they charge more.

If your terms of engagement are not clear you are struggling.

A court order for the debt is pretty good starting point. If you have that you probably have invested into the legal process already. Keep on with the same lawyers.
