If you don't follow the stats, how will you know which ones are working?

Because, as you point out with NZ, what works in one place one day might not work on another.

I prefer to read news, from a lot of different sources, and to look at the original statistics.

TV news, by its nature, cannot cover anything to any depth, and favours news which has visual appeal over news with substance.

I'll watch TV news as well, but it's entertainment rather than a source of information.

Hard to follow anyone when most countries are using same strategy With varying results, just saying......

Many people do this. Though some have stated that they don't look at statistics, and get their news from TV ;-)

Then why are you still posting on this thread.

That's like posting on a thread about Perth "who gives a rats about real estate in Perth 'cause I'm not interested" ... if you're not interested then don't follow up and don't bother trying to justify yourself when others genuinely are interested.

And obviously Simon enjoys the challenge in information, otherwise he wouldn't do it ... so why be rude to him for doing something he enjoys?

    COVID-19 Report - Total deaths

    upload_2020-8-23_22-27-13.png
    • India has passed 50,000 deaths
    • I can't see anything in Argentina's data which stands out such as a large number of new deaths on a single day which typically indicates a data update from a reclassification of deaths or similar - their death rate has been increasing steadily for a few months now - so the numbers might just be really bad

COVID-19 Report - Average daily deaths

    upload_2020-8-23_22-31-7.png
    • Brazil's daily death count is remaining consistently high - averaging around 1,000 deaths per day for months now

There are now 91 countries with more than 10,000 cases, with 3 countries added since I last did the stats:
    • Croatia
    • Greece
    • Democratic Republic of Congo

    Australia's ranking as of 4th Sep 2020:
    • #70 in the world for total cases (down from #69 last week)
    • #78 in the world for average daily cases over the past week (down from #71 last week)
    • #75 in the world for percentage of population infected (down from #73 last week)
    • #54 in the world for total deaths (up from #61 last week)
    • #26 in the world for average daily deaths over the past week (up from #28 last week)
    • #68 in the world for deaths per million population (up from #70 last week)
    • #38 in the world for deaths per case (up from #45 last week)
It is interesting that our death rate is so much higher than many other countries with similar numbers of cases - but I suspect that it more to do with the accuracy of our data - many other countries would not be as detailed with their analysis of deaths compared to Australia.

There are still only 30 countries with more than 100,000 cases, with Egypt getting close but largely having their daily cases under control. Romania is likely to pass 100,000 cases in the next week or so with over 1.3K new cases per day on average.

Top 20 countries as of 4th September 2020:

    • Russia has passed 1 million cases
    • Iraq joins the top 20, pushing Germany out
    • France is climbing back up the rankings
    • Australia is #70

COVID-19 Report - Average daily new cases

    upload_2020-9-6_9-45-41.png
    • India continues to show very large average daily case figures
    • Argentina now up over 10K daily new cases
    • Turkey and Israel join the top 20
    • Morocco and Ethiopia drop out of the top 20
    • Australia is #78

COVID-19 Report - Population infection rate

    upload_2020-9-6_9-48-48.png
    • Bahrain now over 3% of the population infected
    • Kuwait and Peru join the 2% club
    • Singapore, Argentina, Bolivia and Spain all join the 1% club
