There is a lag - but not as much as we're seeing in the US.

The UK's figures I can believe - they seem consistent and are following an expected pattern:

    upload_2021-2-14_8-56-30.png

The US's figures I do not:

    upload_2021-2-14_8-57-0.png

Cases have more than halved in the past month but deaths remain at pretty much the same level - still around 3K deaths per day that they had at the peak of cases in January.

I would be curious to see stats on hospitalisations in the US to see if they have dropped in line with the drop in cases. The only explanation I can come up with is that the US hospital system is so overwhelmed that people are simply not getting the treatment they need to survive - people are dying who might have otherwise survived.

I'd really like to try and build some monthly stats into the system to see if that gives us any more insight - deaths per case isn't that meaningful on a daily or even weekly basis because of the variable amount of time it takes for someone to die from COVID, but averaged on a monthly basis I think we can start to make some comparisons. I'd like to see how the US's deaths per case for January compares to February - I think Feb's rate could be double, which is very unexpected and I suggest unrealistic too.

I'm interested in seeing if there is a change in infections brought about by vaccine use. But there doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern - obviously mother factors come into play. While there have been reductions in cases in Israel with the percentage of vaccinations (the chart shows the number of doses per 100 people, and each person requires two doses to be vaccinated), the reduction in cases is far more dramatic in the US and UK with fewer vaccinations, while UAE has only a small reduction and Bahrain (hiding behind the US in the chart) has had no reduction. As time passed, the actual effect of the vaccinations may become more clear cut.

At the rate of 1.5m vaccinations per day, the US will be fully vaccinated by the end of the year or so.

My US trip MAY be on after all.

Countries will have reciprocal arrangements with others that have the same vaccination status.

At least, everybody who wants a vaccination will be able to get one. I suspect there will be a high proportion who don't want one for various reasons.

Israel has been largely successful due to an education program encouraging people to be vaccinated.

Where did you read that? At the moment a plan is free travel with vaccination at a personal level, not the status of a particular country, in Europe at least. This is already the case with some smaller countries. I read Australia was not going to accept it.

Won't will be many countries with sufficient vaccinated status anytime soon due to failures in vaccine production rate and inability of vax companies to deliver as promised. Most countries in the world still have nothing, its going to take years for the world to be vaccinated enough.

    I didn't. It's my 2 cents for Oz.

So for example, if Oz is through with vaccinating its population and Singapore is too, travel will open up between the two. AND one will need a vaccination passport/proof to travel in the first place.

I've read an article that suggested that reported declines have been exaggerated, as snowstorms and power failures especially in Texas have led to a decrease in reported cases, as testing is down and reporting where testing has taken place has not yet gone to the reporting authorities.

It will be interesting to see if statistics, especially the sharp declines in Texas, reflect this when things get back to normal.
