The US is tracking back to it's late June/early July numbers and rising.

With yesterday's numbers back over 42k they're making the US great again.

    • #80 in the world for deaths per million population (down from #77 last week and the week before)

So Australia is going down in the ranks ie being overtaken by countries where it isn't going so well.

I think the average daily new cases figure is the most indicative of current progress because it shows what is happening now - not what has happened in the past ... and on that measure, Australia is definitely one of the best in the world right now (of countries who have actually had serious exposure to the virus by seeing more than 10,000 cases) ... 4th from the best.

If we expand the criteria to countries with at least 5,000 cases - there are 130 of them and Australia is currently ranked 116th (15th from the best)

Expanded to include countries with at least 2,000 cases - there are 152 countries and Australia is ranked 125th (28th from the best)

Expanded to include countries with at least 1,000 cases (so we also get NZ at 1,886 cases) - there are 158 countries, Australia is still ranked 125th (34th from the best) and NZ is ranked 152nd (7th from the best)

I will also note that many of the countries with "better" results than Australia and New Zealand are in Africa - where I might assume that their testing and tracing ability is definitely not equal to ours, so I will guess that their figures are not entirely reliable.

    • Ireland, Kosovo and Peru up the rankings - although Kosovo's data is really lumpy and inconsistent
    • Australia is #27

16th Oct: COVID-19 Report - Deaths per case

    upload_2020-10-18_22-19-34.png
    • Bolivia, Egypt, China, Kosovo, Peru, Indonesia are all up the rankings - but partly this is because of European countries showing really strong growth in case numbers, without the corresponding strong growth in deaths (yet) - thus pushing the deaths-per-case ratio down. So it's not so much Bolivia, Egypt, etc. getting worse - as it is the Europe (Sweden, Belgium, etc) getting "better"
    • Afghanistan jumps up into the top 20
    • Indonesia joins the top 20
    • Bulgaria and the Netherlands drop out of the top 20
    • Australia #25
