It was initially thought that he had suffered cardiac arrest, and this was what other passengers had been told. However he had Covid-19 symptoms, so regardless of the cause of death, if he had Covid-19, he may have spread it to other passengers. But he wasn't tested, so whether or not he had Covid-19 is not known; there was insufficient contact information to contact other passengers.

Covid19 also caused thickening of the blood and damage to the circulatory system (including the heart).

Was listening to an australian vascular expert on the radio who stated that covid induced heart issues will be their greatest concern for the next 10 years

Granted - there have been numerous mutations, but this latest is the most critical so far. This new variant is "not" more deadly/severe (that medical experts are aware of yet) - but is 70% more infectious, which exponentially makes this version more dangerous.

Wonder which version this new NSW outbreak is?

    From today's Age:

London: One of Boris Johnson's favourite cabinet ministers has claimed the British government has been "ahead of the curve" in managing the country's coronavirus pandemic. Home Secretary Priti Patel made the claim before the country hit a record-high number of new daily infections - 36,804. Britain now has Europe's second-highest death toll, after Italy, with 691 new fatalities taking the death tally to 68,307.

    Denial or what?

    It's all about toilet paper!

    The Y-man

France has announced it will reopen its borders to passengers from England, ending a blockade intended to stop the spread of a new coronavirus variant.

The border crisis led to some panic-buying: shoppers stripped shelves in some supermarkets of turkey, toilet rolls, bread and vegetables.

While the government said there was enough food for Christmas, supermarkets Tesco and Sainsbury’s both said food supplies would be affected if the disruption continued. Tesco said it had imposed temporary buying limits on some essential products.

Apparently they had to line thousands of trucks up on a runway at an airport to stop them blocking the highways trying to get out of the UK and into Europe

There are so many headlines and news articles from the Spanish Flu era which would not seem out of place if you simply changed the date to this year and republished it vertbatim.

At least in Italy they are making good progress in getting this second wave under control and daily deaths are now trending down too.

In absolute numbers Germany now has the highest daily deaths in Europe, just passed Italy, a turn around from the first wave.

    EuropeCovid20201223.jpg

In per capita numbers though Italy and Switzerland are still the worst, with Germany and the UK now about the same as the USA.

Spanish numbers down, in Barcelona most things open at 30% capacity to keep them on life support, night all closed though (curfew). Indoor pools are open (30%), we´re off there today (covid dies pretty quick in chlorine).

The lower cars helps. Was reading this morning that the UK had done 45% of the total world sequencing ... so is pretty up there on volume

Coronavirus tracker: the latest figures as countries fight Covid-19 resurgence | Free to read

    ...

There are concerns, however, that reported Covid-19 deaths are not capturing the true impact of coronavirus on mortality around the world. The FT has gathered and analysed data on excess mortality — the numbers of deaths over and above the historical average — across the globe, and has found that numbers of deaths in some countries are more than 50 per cent higher than usual. In many countries, these excess deaths exceed reported numbers of Covid-19 deaths by large margins.
