Fat chance anything will be under control in India in 1 or 2 week's time. It will take months....

As I keep posting, this pandemic is far from over.

I can’t believe the impatience of some but I suppose they have been COVID impatient for over a year now.

Maybe one day they will get the message.

I pray our government has the strength to hold course with these wild and wacky headwinds.

While we've heard a lot about one particular country, here's another view.
    Screenshot_2021-05-09-11-34-33-27.jpg

The top row is world wide average. Then comes US, India, Brazil, France, Turkey, Russia, UK, Italy, Spain and Germany.

In terms of cases per million and deaths per million, India has much smaller numbers than the others.

I realise that there is probably severe under reporting. But it's an interesting perspective.

    Agree.

Or, like Moscow, countries can (should?) refuse to participate.

Heard that there will be around 1,000 Australian athletes and officials who will have to quarantine on return to Australia.

Seems unfair to those waiting overseas for a chance to return.

Yeah per capita India's official numbers don't look so bad, the real numbers must be worse, but biggest problem seems to be their hospitals not coping, that's what killed half the people here in the first wave.

State of alarm in Spain ending today, we can go out in the evening for the first time in 7 months and travel outside the city. This fourth wave is much smaller, summer is almost here, vaccinating going well 300,000 a day almost all at risk people done, time to start opening up again. Everyone still wears masks everywhere, Spain is the top mask wearing country even higher than the Asian countries, who would have thought.

Unfortunately I am not eligible for vax even though doing my age group now, have to be in the public system (like Medicare) will see if that's possible otherwise will have to miss out for now. I think similar problem for some foreigners in some other countries as well with only private health cover.

Some initial data on the B.1.617 variant known at the Indian variant. I believe a couple of cases have recently been identified in Australia which isn't all surprising really as a person can travel without even knowing they may be infectious.

Gotta remember that India is only the "official" numbers ... those who died in hospital, not cause of death. Suspect you could safely double it :(

I hinted at that. But even doubled, and doubled again, the numbers per million would still be below many other countries.

    That's interesting, thanks.

    Of particular interest to me.

Mexico having nearly three times the number of deaths than that reported. It's interesting, not because it's surprising (it's not), but because Mexico has reported a death rate of 10% of total cases - well above many other countries. Not of which imply that the number of cases in Mexico is massively higher than that reported.

Japan having nearly ten times the death rate than that reported. It's a country which I would have expected to have had far better reporting. It may be that they're trying to protect the Olympics.

I was watching the News last night about Covid in other countries it was quite surreal and like watching a bad SF movie.

Joe runs a 4wd recovery service in Arizona. Just a hard working average person. He has Covid. Read posts for the last 5 or 6 days. It made me think about the effects a little more.
