Per capita though Australia is up there now, above most European countries.

Our outbreaks are still new, give it another 2 weeks or so.... I think our healthcare systems are probably doing better than other countries though. It is certainly being stretched, pushed and tested however. (Thankyou Doctors, nurses and all heathcare staff for your work, it's really appreciated!)

Three reason ... higher vax percentage as being vaxxed doesn't stop you getting covid, or sick, but should significantly lower hospitalizations and deaths ... we're a couple of weeks behind in cases (deaths usually follow around 4 weeks after cases) ... and we really didn't have delta, which is considered more deadly

What the heck is going on in Italy? The daily new deaths line keeps climbing.

Italy has the oldest population in Europe which might be the most significant factor behind the high death rate.

    Has NSW peaked?

    Hospitalisations: 2781 (-82)
    ICU: 212 (-5)

Far too early to call the peak IMO.

That's why I prefer to work with weekly averages or WoW changes rather than daily figures - because daily figures can be misleading.

I would also caution that a return to school for students may cause a new peak - so it may be a while yet before we see a sustained drop in numbers.

While it can be difficult due to time constraints and other factors for news organisations to publish full details it can lead omitting nuances.

    The abc web site reported

"There are 62 people are in hospital with COVID-19 in Canberra, including three people in intensive care, two of whom require ventilation."

However, the local newspaper yesterday reported the bulk of the admissions were not being treated for Covid. It seems to substantiate other reports patients were being admitted for other conditions and, as a result of normal admission processes, it was discovered they also had Covid.

Apparently 80 per cent of those hospitalised in the ACT with a Covid diagnosis are unvaccinated.

Become a teacher! We’re very short of teachers. I imagine especially so in Mount Druitt!

Australia vax rate not that much higher though, couple of points above France and Italy and below Spain and Portugal.
Yeah we still have delta here was told that's what I probably had wasn't mild that's for sure.
Also the older skewed population in Europe maybe a diff.

    Friend’s daughter is in Luxembourg.
They have been RA testing their kids twice a week since early last year.

Luxembourg is rich though, no way could most countries afford that overkill.
Here they just test the class via antigen if one positive and only isolate the class if 5 or more positive (last year was 1).
One class has already been taken out in the last week (5 positive), my sons class has 3 positive in the last week hopefully not any more. Other son just 1 positive in class they both still go to school.

Yeah but the boosters are not nice. The side effects are not mild, closer to severe.

I guess it depends on the person. My 3rd dose reaction (Moderna) was mild. Sore arm and a little tiredness.

Hubby had nothing but a sore arm for half a day. Very much depends on the person
