Ask him to put the reasons why in writing - in an email.

You have not posted a plan of the site or address so we don’t know if there are other factors.

This is the front of my house (and outlook) as it stands, has a 2m setback hence why the council says it is the side (and a 15m naturestrip).

This is the side (and outlook) and proposed location of new colorbond garage but council seems this as the front.

Are you in Latrobe or South or East Gippsland shire? Or somewhere else?

Have you actually lodged plans with the council?

You say you have been “told” certain things, but have you only received verbal advice?

    How old is the house?

It may be that ‘front’ and ‘side’ have previously been decided for the current siting and that council thinks you are now trying to have it both ways.

Agree with this - if you have a 2m setback on one side already then how can you expect dispensation for the other side?

Unfortunately you need to pay for advice to confirm your options with a private planner experienced working in this council area.
