    Hi All,

I need some suggestion and advice about what is the best way to fix the old & corroded lintel which already bent or corroded, hence it is cracking the brickwork.

The house is already 50 years of age.

Looking at the price of Window replacement it is not cheap or at least $1000 for a start per unit.

Any advice and suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

Get a bricky to pin/temporary prop the head, demo the damaged brickwork, fit a new galintel & relay new bricks & head flashing.

That sounds great, no need to buy a new window then?

It wouldn't be a bad idea, the glass is probably not compliant to the current codes ie >1.0m2 and not safety glass.

I thought you only needed safety glass for windows below a certain height?

Anyway, if needed, could always just replace the glass instead of replacing the whole window.

Don't replace the windows without fixing the issue of the lintels. However if its double brick and rendered on the inside you would need to budget for rendering/painting afterwards.

Requirement is in various other situations - eg adjoining a door.

Glazier will only replace glass if it will fit the window suite - older windows will only accept 3mm thick glazing (the suite will be too narrow to accept 4.38 lami).

I wonder if anyone here can suggest the Window Installer or Glazier replace the lintel only?

It requires a bricky not a glazier. There is over 1/2 tonne of brick, timber & tile overhead so it requires someone qualified in a structural trade.

Hard to tell by the pic, but.......
The lintel appears to be level across the window, not rust swollen or twisted.
To me it looks like an expansion crack and little to do with the lintel.
(better pics might help to identify the issue and appropriate recommendations easier)

I replaced the brickwork over this roller shutter a little while back, surprisingly, there was only minor corrosion on the lintel but enough to cause cracks in brickwork to destabilise the entire parapet wall.

So the lintel will still be replaced with new steel and the new brick laid on top of it?
