Firstly does anyone know appliance repair people or installers to help incase I need this in future in Melbourne or Sydney.

I’d like your comments on this shocking experience with a delivery/nstaller man from a top major retail store.

Thursday b4 Easter a delivery/ installer guy brings me my new dishwasher which was urgently needed to be done that day . the shop knew that it was urgent for me that it was installed that week/day , as I had 6 dishwasher loads of dishes piled high and i had very busy weeks ahead where I wouldn’t be able to home again for this to happen.

After 2 minutes installer says he cant get old dishwasher out because the benchtop has expanded with water and the floor was put in after the dishwasher. That he simply cant do this job. Later that day he told me he'd taken apart dishwashers for others yet he didnt offer me any option at all he just said he cant do it.

I told him and also texted shop person who had organised dishwasher and installer, that the benchtop is not expanded that the kitchen was made 30 years ago without melamine on the wood underside so its been flaking for the last 30 years since it was made. Flaking is different to expanded.

I told him to wait that my handyman would come immediately. He told me to tell my handyman to bring a crowbar but the installer refused to wait to install the new dishwasher . He made some comment re the handyman installing the dishwasher, as if all handymen have that expertise and the installer left , leaving me completely in the lurch.

my Handyman came and took out dishwasher within 2 minutes using crowbar and also putting down sheet metal or Masonite to protect floor.

Original Dishwasher installer later told me he was scared benchtop or flooring would tear but somehow he didn’t warn me of that when he told me to get a handyman and still said hes too busy with other back to back jobs to return despite that I was booked in first and earlier and should have been done properly.

Why is he booking jobs back to back jobs for maximum income and not leaving time to do them properly instead he simply leaves any jobs in the lurch that are not totally easy . Not all dishwasher jobs are straight forward most people would have put new flooring within 10 or 20 years of a dishwasher life so why doesn’t he have a crowbar and metal sheeting or Masonite to protect floor and to deal with this easily.

The shop assistant who I contacted was telling me off that the installer does this all the time so he knows what he is talking about. Her husband who I know privately was texting me also telling me off not to text/bother his wife.

Yet no one cared that I was being left completely in the lurch despite that I had paid a few days ago and I’d made it very clear many times that it was urgent for me as I had very busy weeks ahead and I wouldn’t be able to be home again for a few and I already had dishes piled sky high.

I called an elderly repairman who installs dishwashers who never works on Christmas or Easter Friday , but knowing my situation he did come on Easter Friday and he saved my life. I was able to do 6 loads or dishes to catch up on the huge piles and I was able to know that I wouldn’t be in hell the next weeks with huge piles of dishes and till I’d be able to be home again for another installer. This was so important and such a huge relief to me and my family.

How else could I have found someone at such short notice the day before easter long weekend?
I had tried unsuccessfully ,yet the shop and the installer I had booked from a major shop didn’t seem to care about the terrible panic they were leaving me in.

comments pls re behaviour of installer.

    thank you.

Generally installers for the retailers are a quick basic slide in slide out only and state so in their T&C's. They do not use crowbars to remove things and they do not risk damage to the benchtops in doing so. Ask the retailer to refund the install to put towards your other costs.

It's just the way it is these days with all the rules and regs for businesses and employees. We had a new washing machine delivered the other day and the guy said he wasn't allowed to connect it to the hoses. No big deal usually unless we want to make it one.

You need to check the Terms and Conditions Re - the removal of the old dishwasher .
Did they agree to do this ? Does it state they will take it apart if they cant get it out?

I know he told you he does it for other customers but does it state on the Contract you signed.

Im not sure legally( unless they agreed of course) that they need to physically unattach the other dishwasher but im sure installing the dishwasher was part if the service.

Firstly I would photocopy the receipt from the old guy/ dishwasher installer you had out and send this to the Company asking for full payment as they did not or could not install the dishwasher on the day .

The owner you said you know privately i would send him a text message with same saying you were very disapointed in their service as you thought by knowing him personally you would not be let be down.

Tell him you trusted his service and was shocked and disapointed to be let down by him, considering as you felt highly about him.

Do not mention that you will not use the service again etc

Tell them exactly what you want in the text or email IE payment for dishwasher installed AND see if you can bluff them into paying for the original handyman who took it out .

    Send that receipt too

At the bottom of the email write "" that unless the bills can be paid we will have to go for mediation and eventually before the Consumer Tribunal which we hope doesnt come to that considering both our valuable time...I hope we can work this out favourably as I still have faith in your Company and you personally, please reply within 7 days so if necessary I can make arrangements to attend the Dept Of Fair Trading.

If I dont hear from you by next Friday I will lodge a mediation with the Fair Trading Dept which we will both have to attend, Im asking if a Monday will be ok for you if we need to attend ? It will take all day , so please get there by 10am so they can call us into the conference through out the day .

    Yours Sincerley

I'm not sure why you are so upset by this. After all, you could just have washed the dishes in the sink for a while ;)

It is inconvenient, but surely you can see it from his point of view?

If he had damaged your floor getting the old one out / new one in, I suspect you would have posted to the forum asking for advice on how to get him to pay for repairs to your floor.

The handyman could have installed the dishwasher.... especially if he was able to disconnect it.

Connecting a dish washer is no different to a washing machine. One / two hoses in, one out.

And seriously, you couldn't wash the dishes by hand?

    You're joking, right?

Washing and drying dishes is not exactly rocket science, even kids can do it - mine did from about 7 years of age.

And these days is there is probably a utube video showing you how.

Just a thought, with all of the energy put in to writing your posts you could have shot down to coles and picked up a dish sponge and dw liquid, if fact you could have done that before your dishes piled up. If this is all you have to worry about then yours must be a good life.

Sounds like a house full of bachelors, however they wouldn't have that many dishes.

Put the lot on back lawn, let the dogs look after them, use hose to rinse.
Or, fill bathtub with hot soap water.
