Yeah, when things go wrong, they go wrong really quickly. Kevlar etc chaps are a MUST (learn from our lesson!). Agree with the other safety measures as well, although safety glasses don't always factor into our setup (oops).

My old man always had Stihl. I bought a Stihl Woodboss a few years back and give it a fair flogging and its held up well so Id recommend them.

Steel caps a must. And hearing protection. I have never had need for any of the rest. I guess it depends on what you are doing and how experienced you are. The work I was doing on the farm was low risk for an experienced operator.

But then I spent an afternoon angle grinding without eye protection *

    * squinting is eye protection right?

Lived on the dirt growing up and the old man always had a Stihl. Now we are back in the bush, the wife and I go through about 10 tonnes of firewood a winter. We bought a Stihl MS461. That thing goes through 18" logs of Redgum, Box, Coolibah or Stringy Bark like a hot blade through butter.

Can't go past the Stihl stuff - mine's are well abused by me and they still work like a champ. Servicing them can be a bit exxy though.
