Far too high tech for a govt department. Facsimile machines are still being beta tested by the ABS!

They don't want us to enter "Jedi" as a religion, but I even have a tee-shirt that states, "Trust me, I'm a Jedi". Anyone who's visited my office will testify that it's basically a shrine to Star Wars!

I'm considering walking the dark path and pledging allegiance to the Red God. "For the night is dark and full of terrors".

I don't know what to put for religion. I'm not religious. But I don't know if I am an Atheist, Agnostic or Secular Humanist. Is there a quiz for this? :)

If the census 12 digit code form is sent to my IP address and the buggers don't it will i get fined? How do they even know who to fine?

Does international students have to be counted on the form? do they have to fill out a form?

Can I be fined for not completing the census?
Yes. If a person fails to return a census form, the ABS will firstly notify that person of their legal obligation to do so.

If that person still does not return a census form, they may face a fine of $180 a day until the form is returned.

The ABS says prosecutions and fines are its last resort.

In 2011 there were fewer than 100 instances where fines were issued, and the ABS expects a similar number of fines this year.

I will be working following up late lodgements. I start work on August 22.

I don't know if that is the same elsewhere. There is face to face training first so there may be different dates in different places.

I am interested to read how many people register as LGBT as this figure recently is now increasing thanks to the world becoming more accepting of other human beings especially young people where the biggest rise in numbers is actually being seen. The numbers are still very much smaller the older the age group is......

What percentage of the population is gay?

Well I didn't get my number in the mail (we have a LOT of mail get stolen from our block of townhouses). I have had to contact them via the online submission because the phone number simply states "we are experiencing a high volume of calls" I don't hold high hopes that anyone will actually get back to me.

At least I have the receipt, I won't be paying if they try and fine me.

I have nothing either. I'll email (thanks Dan Donoghue for the tip) so I have a record that at least I tried.

Edit: Will wait until tomorrow's mail to give them a chance before emailing.

Mr Angel has done his bit for the gender gap issues thingee. He believes that any work done around the house is domestic, and that capital improvements to his camper trailer is essential for the maintenance of his home. He clicked that he performed 29 hours of housework. Sounds about right.

Don't worry about it, the log in is sent to the residence, ie the place where the occupants live. They will be smart enough to sort it out themselves.

Best to give them a buzz on 1300 214 531

I just got through to them (about my 30th attempt) and they are SMSing me a new code. The problem with using the web form is the current delay (according to the lady on the phone) is 5 days before they even look at it, the fine for not doing it by the September deadline can be $180 per day up to a maximum of $1,800.

No, you have to do it based on your household as at Tuesday 9th. You can do it any time before or after the 9th, once you have your unique code.

General help | Census | Australian Bureau of Statistics

Can I complete the Census before or after 9 August?
The Census needs to be completed in relation to Census night, but can be completed in the days leading up to or following Tuesday 9 August.

If you forget, we will remind you to complete the Census after 9 August. You will not be fined if you complete the Census after Census night.

... so you don't have to actually do it on Tuesday night, you just do it based on who stayed at your house on Tuesday night.

He cleaned the filters in my vacuum cleaner with his air gun on Saturday morning, if that counts.
