You must have bought at a similar time as me. Mine were $104.....but nowhere near 1000 shares. I don't think my pockets are as deep as yours, plus a novice in this 'shares thing', makes me nervous when I have too much in the one basket. Holding more than that in others now.....but not liking the current yields that much.

    Hey @skater ,

Back in March 2020 when I started the thread that we were planning to invest just under 3mil in the stockmarket, it was not long after that time when we bought.

We sold some assets at the time to jump on board the stockmarket( don't have that kinda cash lying around), seemed like a fantastic time to buy when everyone was gripped by fear. Long story short, we did exceptionally well with the help of a family company. Could have done even better if I didn't get in the way of some decisions ( not used to giving up control) but can't complain when I look at the results. Exited most of that 3mil now but still have about 700k left in. At the end of the day, the calculated risk paid off.

I think I bought mine around the same time. Topped up on a few others, but it's the first real dip I've witnessed, and commonsense tells me I should have bought more (at the time), but I just wasn't confident with my decisions, so kept it small.

Yeah, I've got a few now & a decent sized portfolio I guess, but it does still seem like a bit of a casino to me.

Why is 1 CBA share better than 3 NAB/ANZ/WBC shares?

It's a remarkable turnaround that has happened from mid march last year when the entry price was sitting around the $57--00 ,and everyone thought the price was heading into the low $40-OO range..
Only my opinion as the entry price as of a few minutes ago was $102.490 --and today's change is up$1--280 --1-26%--..

Why is 1 CBA share better than 3 NAB/ANZ/WBC shares

I would say there is several reasons, one is that CBA has new network of financial plumbing that may well disrupt the status quo ,and the pandemic have made online transactions come of age ,depending on what one reads from all the reports from CBA ..

CBA and ANZ 5 average yields are similar.

Surely easier for ANZ yield market cap to double than it is for CBA to double?

For those no longer accumulating and will be selling down shares to fund lifestyle, I would imagine this is a good thing. For those still accumulating or who live purely of the dividends and have no intention of selling down it would make no difference what so ever if not even be a disadvantage for accumulation. As much as I like to see my portfolio value go up in numbers its actually the cash flow from that portfolio that I am interested in. I fall into the still accumulating and have no intention of selling down camp.:D

We still have the CBA shares we bought when they floated in 1991 - $5.40/share. The dividends since then have been very generous. The share price has gone up and down but we are a long way in front :)

Look at how afterpay rocketed to over 150 bucks.

Then there’s cohlear , csl that hit 300s. It wouldn’t surprise me if CBA did the same.

So too, BHP, RIO and Fortescue could go sky high.
