We are currently renting a place - no carpet in the house at all; only laminated imitation floor boards and tiles.

We have no problem with it..even in this Melbourne winter; have put down our own mats in various places.

My advice; make the IP bullet proof - no carpet at all.

(Marg Lomas used to recommend same).

Totally agree BV and that's what I wanted to do initially but I was been told by the PM that the strata managing our apartments doesn't allow floating board or tiles. Apparently other owners have tried going down that path but haven't had much luck to date.

You can get rid of that yourself, see the video below, I have done this before and it works amazingly well.

What's under the carpet? If it's concrete or boards - polish them?

Good idea. It'll be concrete so that'll be an option too assuming the strata won't pick on the potential noise for downstairs neighbours. Doesn't hurt to ask I guess :)

    Hi TDK,

This is the carpet which was quoted for $1200 for two rooms (including removal of old carpet plus installation) :
    Red Book Hollywood Nights

It says nylon so I assume it's solution dyed nylon and therefore is better than polypropylene. Could I get some advice on whether this carpet is worth the price? Thanks :)

    Hi Guys,

My Local Carpet guy quoted me approx 45m2 of area (including stairs) for about $2000 (removed old carpet and install new) with cheapest Solution Dye Nylon. Is that Ok or rip off quote?

You should be able to get it around $1400-$1500.

I get my 3 bedroom houses carpeted for around $1k. Tenants will destroy it so it may as well be cheap

Carpets Direct in Salisbury I think it was. They didn't do a great job, but it's cheap

Sorry I didn't get a quote for polishing concrete in the end. It was difficult enough to get a quote from the agent for carpet so I went with it given the quote was fairly reasonable.
