if we had a time machine or a crystal ball?

I love cars but am surprised at how well they still seem to be performing.

One of my clients just bought a very original 1969 Datsun 1600 for $28,000

And a few weeks ago an XE falcon ESP, rusted with blown motor sold for well over $100,000.

I’m still surprised that these are not great collectables but someone is buying them

Yep, blows me away too! My first car was a Datsun Sunny I paid $5000, my sister had a Torana she paid $5000 for and my dad had an immaculate ESP (there was 5 in Aus) until it got stolen and damaged. Before that he had 2 and four door Monaro’s. Yes it really blows me away. My husband has a 21 year old 97 Ford Fairmont Ghia with around 150,000k’s. Two people walked up to him last week and asked him what it was, how old it was, and said it was in great condition. I wonder if it will become a collector in the future as I still feel it’s a pretty good looking car, the power steering is so smooth and it’s nice having chrome trims instead of plastic. I’m Tempted to keep it!

I had the pleasure of selling a 1999 Skyline GTT 7 years ago for $18k. They're now worth $40-50k (in the amazing condition mine was in). An R34 GTR can be $100-160k, they were $40k 7 years back.

It got me thinking what would be some good buys at the moment. I had figured very nice XE's and XF's would be, but it appears not!!! My second car was a nice XF Ghia, star wars dash + 5 cigarette lighters for maximum smoking comfort!!

I think the 6.0L Holden SS's and so on would be at their rock bottom - $15k or so and they'll never mass market V8's anymore surely...

Any limited edition Ferrari will appreciate. So many people trying to get their hands on the new Pista but you basically have to have bought several Ferrari's before being eligible to get on the waiting list

599 GTO, Speciale Aperta, f430 scuderia, 360 scuderia all have insane asking prices now

If I was a betting man I would also put my money on any 991 911 Porsche with an N/A motor and a GT3 in front of it. Manual box even better. Considering almost everything moving forward will be turbocharged these will likely end up being collectibles

For JDM keep an eye on Skyline R33 GTR's (R32 and R34 ship has already sailed) and Evo 5 TME......unmolested S2000's also

I have an R32 GTR.. doesn't get driven much, but it goes up every year, and double what I paid for it. I am tempted to swap for a c63 amg in a year or two, as I think they are starting to bottom in price right now.

I love cars it’s my passion...

if you know what your doing can be a nice little side income I’m always on the hunt for super clean rare cars, in recent years I’ve done very well from sourcing 90s HSVs although I also like euro/ jdm vechicles... wish I bought a late model Toyota supra rz manual when there were affordable...

I just bought a MY12.5 VEII 6.0L Calais with only 42k on the clock.

Dirt cheap vs new car price & they're not making any more V8s any more. It's not an investment but I don't think they're going to depreciate either.

This was my Dad’s XD Fairmont Ghia ESP V8. Not the best pic! It was fun flying down hills in it at Whites Hill. A710C9B6-5685-4C66-AEEC-29AA18CFC4A2.jpeg

I was in a prestige car sales place about a year ago as my 15 yr old begged me to go and does a bit of car photography and just adores cars. I was looking at an old 80’s Ferrari In good condition. It was $250,000 salesman told me of another Prestige car yard same car recent sale, higher k’s achieved that sales price. He said in another year it will be worth $50,000 more. I was tempted to sell my IP’s, stick it in a garage for a year. Cars don’t ask for rent reductions! I haven’t followed if it’s true!

I sold my V2 Monaro CV8 just on 10 years ago. A quick scan of Carsales and I think if I wanted to buy the same I’d be up for similar $$$ I sold it for.

    I hear you... sold my 04 CV8R in 2007 for 34k.. only 30000kms.
I could buy it back today for the same money but with an extra 100000kms...
These will only go up in value.

A few interesting ones. The last of the 2015 Land Rover Defenders. They stopped production since they don't meet safety and emissions standards in Europe and US. They bought out this heritage edition.

    I wish I waited ( bought a 2014 model ).
