By the way, if you wish to support Australian made vaccines (or have shares in CSL), use the AstraZeneca one :D

Yes, but would you believe some of these countries also use China to manufacture

One that bothers me, is food products, eg pork products - bacon, ham etc.

Brands are "Australian owned", and I think I am doing the right thing, but when I look closely at the country of origin of the pork - it's something like 15% Australian ingredients.

Have to search to find Australian pork.

I'm not sure how a rasher of bacon can be 15% Australian? Surely it's either 100% or 0%.

Gotta watch the frozen veges too ... the foreign fresh are easy to spot but have to check the frozen for country of origin. Bemused why sweet potato fries come from South African and frozen beans from Belgium

Interest to hear reported today one reason why GM pulled out of the Australian car market - lack of government policy on green transition, as GM is committed to being fully EV by 2035

Mmm, that is a tricky one. Maybe one of the resident experts on here can supply an answer to that. Could it be that only the rind is grown in Australia..:)

One thing you can be sure of that the cheap t shirts and crap you buy only last 6 months so it is basically a cheap economy to by the overseas products. But not all overseas products are rubbish for sure.

This virtually guarantees that the pig is bred overseas then.

    Here's what I do, it's small but I do what I can:

    1) Prioritise Australian made / owned when I can, I'm happy to pay a premium as long as the quality is there. If it's not, I won't blindly buy Australian. I'm not buying garbage out of some nationalistically pride.

    2) If I have to buy from a foreign company, I will try to buy from one that isn't made in China.

    3) If I have to buy made in China, I will prioritise products owned by companies that are from countries that are not hostile to us (Japan, Korea, US, Taiwan and other allies etc).

    4) If I have to buy Chinese made AND owned, then I will buy it from a local retailer. E.g. on eBay, I always filter by location = Australia even though it always costs more. That way there is someone local here paying taxes.

    5) If I buy from a shop / restaurant owned by countries hostile to us and there is a risk of tax being evaded and funds making their way directly out of the country, I will insist on paying with my card and paying for the credit card surcharge. $0.30c is a small price to pay to make sure the money is taxed.
