Buying next to a cemetery

    I wonder if valuers take cemeteries into account when doing their valuation.. I know they take into consideration main roads, power lines etc

    Sure do, its a location risk and makes the property far harder to sell. The market for these style properties is quite dead

    Curious if it's in a flood zone?
    But it's on a main road, next to a cemetery and 50 km from the Brisbane CBD.
    Not for me, for 40-50k more you could buy in Strathpine, Lawton or Petrie I would have thought.

    It's a no for me. ( I've lived in a suicide house, but I draw the line at cemeteries where there are actual corpses )

    Is it an active cemetery or closed cemetery similar to a church graveyard where there are no new burials.

    It would not bother me, although I’m not superstitious.
    I live to the east of Rookwood (albeit separated by Centenary Drive.)
    and at times have cycled or walked the dog around the cemetery of an evening. 314 hectares of quiet gardens.
    and it seems to have caused no affect on property prices in the suburb.

    The positives a cemetery has is that it is often green and peaceful. I think a view over a cemetery can be nicer than an "in your face" apartment block.
    I would consider buying a unit in the blocks around the cemetery in North Parramatta, because it's parkland with tall trees that just happens to have some headstones.
    Other ones.... Perhaps not.
    Waverley cemetery... yes, quite possibly, if the property stacked up.

    Do care to tell the story :confused: I'd live next to cemetery (depends on the cemetery), but not in a suicide house!

    I think the answers on this thread are enough to prove there are some who simply would not entertain the idea. You are going to face this when you try to rent and when you try to sell it. It may/will force you to discount both rent and sales price. So as long as you purchase for a reduced price, you'll be fine.

    Nope its not for me either, i found a perfect beach front block of land in the Philippines a couple years ago it was so nice and very affordable , right next to a small cemetery was a huge turn off for me.

    Our family owns the house, which was loaned out free of charge to a staff member. It was death by insecticide due to his gambling problems. Happened around 24-25 years ago, so I was ok with living in it.
    It had been rented out prior to my moving in, so I suppose it was fine for tenants too.
