Hi Gockie, why do you think Brisbane logically goes before Canberra?

Once the mass media, e.g Channel 7, 9 and 10 start talking about Brisbane and having experts give their recommendations it would be already too late.. best to get in sooner than later I would think..

Canberra's very cyclical with government... Labor's all about "more public servants!" Liberals are "lets cut back on Public Servants".
I did toy with the idea of buying a Unit in Queanbeyan as they can be dirt cheap but then I also thought, well, I'll be hitting NSW land taxes soon.

I dunno... Queensland/Brisbane with the water.... nice sunny warm escape in Winter...
there's really no beaches in Canberra.... maybe Sydneysiders are more coastal folk?My sister lived in Wagga for a few years and its gets very hot and cold temperature wise. In Sydney winter is pleasant most of the year. In Wagga it gets down to say 2° in the evening. Wagga is not that far from Canberra climate wise. She was driving up to Sydney on about a fortnightly basis for weekends...

The 'experts' have been talking it up for ages. And they've known about it up North for quite a while too:

Gockie, Canberra has its own land tax. Its not part of NSW.

No land tax threshold in ACT though.

I was thinking of buying in Queanbeyan as it was cheap....
Stock standard Canberra property is 400k and more. Queanbeyan unit you could get change from 200k.
In Brissie think you can still buy good value near the water for not too dissimilar money to a regular Canberra house.
The problem with the cyclical nature of Government is that once they sack heaps of Public Servants, who is going to rent your property?
Anyway, i'm definitely no expert on Canberra, I usually just visit it once a year for the purpose of volleyball. Nothing else...

Ooh, dodged a bullet there. Canberra would be a better pick than Qbn, but units aren't going so well in Canbrrr either. I still keep an eye on Jerrabomberra too.

I know, that's why I moved from Canbrrr to Brisbane :) Canberra has a big difference between hot and cold as well.
Plenty of suburbs seem to be taking off in Canberra (houses) at the moment. Imagine how it would be going if it had the hype behind it that Brisbane does.

Someone mentioned that stamp duty is deductible because of the 99 year lease thing...

Like the Somersoft minibus from this weekend? Haha

Snap below from the auction we attended - http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-wishart-119853793

Sold for $517,000. Someone from our group was bidding $480,000 on it. Very good turnout, around 8 active bidders and over 100 people attending the auction.

If there is a minibus, I may join! I was thinking of flying up for the weekend of 4-5 July.

It needed around $30,000 done to it, on a slope too.

Lots of locals and families bidding at the auction. Who by an Asian family - so I am sure Mansfield State High was part of their consideration.

    Cheers,
    Michael
