Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell. It explains how certain demographics and cultures are better and worse at different things, and more importantly, ways to fix or change. It's a must read.

A short synopsis: Every single successful person in the world has become so by practicing for 10,000 hours at their chosen hobby/work/obsession, and has found themselves in a favorable environment to capitalize on their skills. They have gotten there by receiving and taking advantage of opportunities to practice and train that for some people with similar potential don't exist. It busts the myth on high IQ and how that will not correlate to success on it's own.

The book is quite short and gets right to the point.

    • Common Sense on Mutual Funds,by John C. Bogle
    • As a Man Thinketh, by James Allen

    • How You Could Build a $10 Million Property Portfolio in Just 10 years, by Peter Spann

    And an honourable mention to
    • Way of the Peaceful Warrior

Over the years read some memorable books but I actually wrote a book myself "The Final Say" by Sarah Wadsworth 2013. Whilst the book is just my way to be cathartic ( crappy ramblings) it has freed me personally and I have started investing (in property) since then. Before this I was too bogged by stuff in my head.

A recent one is Mark Sisson's Primal Blueprint. I watched him on the Joe Rogan experience - everything he discussed made a whole lot of sense.

    Cheers

    The god delusion.

It put into words and rational arguments what I had always felt and was the last straw for my to dispel all the crap I'd been fed over the years.

The BRW Rich 200. Whilst it's not a book, I look forward to reading it every year. It's a reminder to me what's possible in our country.

It's a long time since i read it. But I think the quote in the quoted Wikipedia article gives some idea of the tone. It's about the hope arising out of despair, and the path towards finding something about what life is all about.

On Amazon it's rated 4.7 out of 5, with 82% of readers giving it a five start rating.

One quote from the Australian Amazon reviews which may be applicable to your question

actually MTR its the most life affirming book I have ever read.
It doesn't deal with the horrors of the camps.

It deals with the ability of the human mind to survive and win no matter what the surroundings.
It talks about the inner decision that makes some rise to challenges, even altruism while others fail.

it is quick read, simply written and life changing. Man is more than an animal tossed by fate. We can choose to be who we are. Frankl's argument is that, if we choose wisely, we can triumph even in base circumstances. We forget this in our cynicism or fear.

Its the ultimate mindset book, written by a respected scientist and a professional. not a hippy dippy clueless optimist.
