2 years is totally meaningless. Do you know why it has outperformed?

I'm only an amateur but I think that whenever one looks at performance, "reversion to the mean" should be one of the first considerations for the longer term. That can sometimes be a rocky road in that a period of outperformance might be followed by a period of underperformance in getting there.

I'm the opposite in that I look for poor performance as a trigger for further investigation when wanting to invest.

This is the reason why I am thinking of selling out of MVW and reallocating somewhere else. Lucky for me it was purchased and currently held over a period where it hasn't suffered performance (too badly) wise compared to the alternatives I was considering at the time, long term I am confident it will. This whole selling thing is something that takes me some time, even when I know it is the right way to go. Also need to reallocate somewhere so that decision needs to be made too.

Out of interest, just reviewed some notes from the time (was about 50/50 on ETFs vs LICs back then) and trying to minimise cap weighing/concentration issues was on my mind and smart beta ETFs were looked at.

MVW was selected over QOZ as I felt it was changing my weightings more, the goal of selection.
VHY was selected as a dividend play - much better than the high yield alternatives IMO, happy enough with this selection.

VAS and VGS were other ETFs selected

3 out of 4 ETFs I am happy with, better than a brokers goal of 2 out of 3 winning.

I decided on QVE over MVS for small/mid cap.

Obviously not a bogglehead portfolio, interesting to review.

Um where to reallocate? I've heard BHP, RIO and FMG are great long term investments:D.

I'd like to think my mistakes are getting less embarrassing

All this thinking of fiddling with things is too much, I just looked at VHY too , I'm selling up and joining @Redwing on the good ship Boglehead. 30% VAS, 30% VGS and 30% VGB, 10% cash and yearly re-balancing is the only way to go.

    Hi Hodor,

Welcome to the Boglehead club. It is certainly easier to sleep at night.

I am still waiting for Vanguard to bring out an Australian domiciled ETF for the S&P 500. VAS is nice and easy but not truly Boglehead, an Aust domiciled Vanguard (why am I fixated on Vanguard - don't know,,but) S & P 500 ETF would make it all that much easier.

That would be very nice I agree.

Is there an Oz domiciled S &P 500 ETF outside of Vanguard?

QUOTE="seven, post: 371826, member: 2935"]Welcome to the Boglehead club. It is certainly easier to sleep at night.[/QUOTE]

There are some things I don't like with the Boglehead approach, hence I will be staying the course on what I am doing after refining some of my earlier purchases. Low fees and simplicity are certainly key takeaways for everyone. The zealots in the Boglehead camp do my head in anyway  glad the Boglehead's here are reasonable.

I don't and won't be holding any bonds.

50% VAS and 50% VGS is about the simplest portfolio you can get and a good place to start - or even stick with long term. Avoids any huge mistakes and easy to skew your portfolio in the direction you want if you decide to try and educate yourself further.
