Blacktown Liberal councillors, Karlo Siljeg and Jess Diaz, wish to rename Blacktown local government area West Sydney City Council and for the CBD West Sydney.
    .
“Blacktown has changed over the years — it’s not what it was before.’’

Cr Siljeg said the most recent proposal was raised as part of the council’s plan to rebrand itself — a matter that will also be discussed at tomorrow night’s meeting.
The rebranding would cost ratepayers $80,000 and could include a logo change and a new marketing strategy.

What does everyone think of the possible name change? Living myself in Blacktown council, I think I am in favour of a rebranding, it would give the council a new direction and help in improving the image. $80k cost is cheap for a council the size of Blacktown.

Blacktown council are good at getting into local papers of this nature, but never have a systematic plan to get there..

They spent years on the new zoning/planning (imagine the cost involved with the planning) but prior gazetting, scaled back most what they've proposing.

They even had a go at naming a new precinct in the urban growth area under Whitlam.

As long as they bring in a decent planning section and stop having a sook because of the Growth Centres SEPP not allowing them to gouge 70k+ a lot in developer contributions then I'm all for it.

Dual occ allowed, but only for 1 title. no strata/community title allowed for dual occ. neighbouring council allows...blacktown council needs to pull themselves together.

I'd hardly think that Parramatta, Liverpool and Penrith councils would be happy with Blacktown giving itself that name. Especially as they'd come 4th in the running as the second Sydney CBD.

Do apologise. It's 500sqm for an attached in a low density zone. Detached is 600sqm.

Can subdivide if it is a corner lot.

    Hi Andrew,

    Could you please confirm ?

    1. If block is 500sqm + over can build duplex with separate titles?

    2. If block is 600sqm + over can build two detached houses with separate titles?

Sorry to disappoint guys. Clause 4.1C states:
    (1) Development consent must not be granted for a subdivision that would create separate titles for each of the 2 dwellings comprising a dual occupancy unless:
    (a) the frontage of each dwelling comprising the dual occupancy is a corner lot, and
    (b) the size of each lot resulting from the subdivision is not less than 300 square metres.

    (2) Nothing in this clause or any other provision of this Plan prevents a subdivision that would create separate titles for each of the 2 dwellings comprising a dual occupancy of a detached dual occupancy development if the 2 resulting lots would meet the minimum size shown on the Lot Size Map in relation to that land.

    Absolutely ludicrous control.

I really don't like the control. It's just insane.

Especially as one suburb over the Growth Centres SEPP can apply which means a 250 sqm minimum lot size as an example.

Quakers Hill is under Blacktown LEP not Growth Centres. 450sqm min lot size for subdivision (for each lot), 500sqm for attached dual occ, 600sqm for detached (I'm assuming Low Density as most of QH is).
