You may realise from my posts that I'm generally left of centre. But I don't support this policy. It's one which only affects people on a low taxable income who get dividend income - apparently some 900,000 people. There will be enough Labor voters in that lot to potentially change the outcome of the election. Even if it was fully justified (and of course, I don't believe that it is), then Labor are shooting themselves in the foot by continuing to push this policy.

I'm willing to change my vote on this issue. I'm certainly going to check out independents and other candidates this time around. It's been a while since I haven't supported Labor (though sometimes I've voted for them as second preference behind a minor candidate).

I’ve said many times that maybe we would benefit in the long term if we handed the joint to independents and put a broom through both major parties, ridding them both of those bloody factions

I have never voted Labor ... and have traditionally been a LNP supporter ... but LNP are "on the nose" on so many levels that I am confused on who to vote for.

No party is perfect and I agree LNP have done some dumb ****...

But do you seriously identify with labor's fundamental ideology?

That's why I'll never vote labor.

No I lie. If I was forced with a gun to my head to choose labor or Greens, I'd happily vote labor.

Sportsbet has Labor $1.25 to Liberal $3.50

Pretty much written off in their eyes.

Nope - that's the confusion. Can't vote Labor as don't agree with their fundamentals - traditional LNP voter but cannot bring myself to vote for the toxic current party - Green's are communist in disguise ... all parties have segments I agree with, but the basics of all are noxious.

No decent independents in my neck of the woods and don't want to run the risk of some minor 16 vote weirdo getting in due to preferences ...

    Yesterday I think.

Sportsbet was up and down like a dunny seat during the leadership spill.

Well, someone has been whispering in BS pink ear and we are now going to have an Australian Shipping line, seem to remember the last one collapsed because labour from other countries was much cheaper, I think the same circumstances still exist ...

C'mon now @euro73 there are two sides to the ledger, why is it the only way governments seek to balance the books is on the revenue side? How much bloated beurocracy is ripe for trimming in Canberra? How much did that royal commision set us back again?

Franking credits seem to be the most misunderstood concept in the lead up to the election, perhaps even a general lack of understanding of what a shareholder is.

I am a shareholder. I am a part owner of a company. My company has paid the government 30% of its profits as tax. If my marginal rate is under 30c in the dollar I should have every right to have some or all of that payment refunded.

Now there may be arguments about the level of taxation on superannuation in general, and to me there are clearly some more appropriate sources of tax revenue that are just too unpopular to get through (cough)...ppor exempt from pension asset testing...(cough) but to me the franking credit system seems fine as is.
