How do guys & girls measure waist?
Just above hips around belly button, relaxed pose not sucking in?
My waist is narrower higher up but was always advised to measure lower down.

Hum, I always measure the smallest part (per clothes measurement). Otherwise it will be called belly (or really, I just want to feel better!)

I'm not a woman, but always measured where it shows the Small Hip line.

just go for the smallest part - or what should be the smallest part - that's your waist. Different for blokes. Many women differ from that picture too - though it's useful. :)

I go just below my belly button. The tape measure is half on and half below my belly button. I stand up straight then relax, don't suck in, don't push out. It actually takes a few goes to get consistent readings. It is something important for me to track though because I am in a high risk zone. :(

Surprised nobody pulled big numbers considering it's the 2nd week and motivation should still be strong in the early stages.

I actually think pulling big numbers in 2 weeks is hard... and can be unhealthy and back fire. To reduce 1kg real fat ~ take off 7000 excess calorie (numberwise), so take off 500 cal per day for 14 days.
If it is all water mass then it's different matter

I'm using the short notice as my excuse (just not organized) and hoping to have a big July.

Skiing in Perisher next week - not sure if that will help or hinder.

The Biggest Loser show has contestants pull 'big numbers' because they are in a controlled environment more so than we are, with us having to continue about our working day as well. They have no temptations, no alcohol, are portion controlled, and have bootcamp exercise regimes daily, and even more time to continue to exercise. The lure of the grand prize would also give some of those people hope, as would the continued support of their mentors, Michelle, Tiffany, Shannon and Steve.

I think people who can continue to lose ~1% per week consistently will be close to the overall Biggest Loser.

This challenge is still light hearted enough, but lets those who are serious about losing excess weight, get leaner, produce good muscle mass, and especially improve their quality of life in the long run a good shot at success by being accountable for 12 weeks. I commend those who have taken it seriously, and those who want to get a specific result, recorded or otherwise.

Interesting observation Ace, and I know what you mean. However just from my personal experience, I found that if I lose a steady .3kg per week (with variations, of course!) then that is the most sustainable approach for me. I've lost 10kgs doing it this way, and the only thing that really stopped me for any period of time was going on 5 weeks' leave from work, where the hubby and I basically gave ourselves free passes in terms of eating. Back on the wagon now for me though! Slow and steady really does work, at least for me :)

Some of you are doing really well - bit by bit. For the rest of us, let's hope we're better at making money than losing weight. :p Week by week is pretty tough though. Just keep going. :)

I stand corrected, this weeks Biggest Loser was @Ace in the Hole with 1.75%.

@wombat777, I had you on the top of my old spreadsheet, but @Spludgy did a small change and suggested alphabetical order for ease of input.

Can you really track your weight on a week by week basis? It seems like when I weigh myself at the gym, my weight can fluctuate +/-1kg depending on how much water I drank and the time of day.

I reckon I lost 2kg after my 32km run last on the weekend, then put on 3kg trying to reenergize. Lol
