I've just about finished the painting of the old window frame and its starting to look really good.

Ordered the timber blinds, so should get that in a couple of weeks, so almost done.

Quick question.. i have a dark / textured tile and i messed a small blob of water based paint (primer or aqua enamel) and was wondering what would be the best solvent / product to remove it? I'm just not 100% sure what is safe to use on the tile.

Let it dry then it might just scratch off. in the mean time get onto google and you tube quick smart to find the best way

I did the same with ceiling paint and recall scratching it off once dry. But different paints different tiles you want to make sure

Yeh ill use some paint stripper as a last resort, but i got most of it off. I think it was the primer (zinsser) which was so stubborn to come off the tiles.Tiler supplier said its safe to use any solvent as they wont penetrate the tiles.

Painting the ceiling today... made sure that i lay down plenty of newspaper as well as drop sheets :)

Shower screen getting fitted tomorrow morning :)

Coming along nicely! Good shower screen choice, im guessing you paid more for a custom measure and instal but it looks huge and makes the room look bigger than the old one.
Is there much to go? all going to plan? Shower head looks good too

Yup, paid $950 for custom fitted screen.. worth it!

The electrician still needs to do 2nd fix and install new exhaust fan and 3 in 1.

I just need to paint a small bulkhead, fit the toilet roll holder, heated rail and mirror cabinet, although im having 2nd thoughts about a bulky mirror cabinet, might just go for a flat mirror.

Other than that.. not much left to do! :)

Looks great, well done! Reflecting back on it now, is there anything you do different? Whether that be approach, order of tasks or even styling changes?

I'm a recent first home buyer with a bathroom reno job on the horizon so keen to learn as much as I can now.

    Nah, overall im pretty happy.

The only minor thing i might have done is the painting of the roof and window frame before the tiling started.

Other than that, everything went according the plan and the renovation of the other bathroom will be even easier and less time consuming as i know the style im going for (this was very time consuming)

The total came to $8100, but a few things bumped it up, such as

1: Having to buy a new shower mixer and shower head from Beaumont tiles (added about $200)
2: Custom made timber blind ($400)

Evening taking that into consideration, the cost of the whole job was still MUCH lower than some of the other quotes i got, which ranged from $11-15k.

Any chance in a cost breakdown? I need to show the mistress of finances why I want to avoid the bathroom reno companies. I'm happy to coordinate trades myself so I don't see any reason to pay them a fortune.

Sure, i have attached the breakdown of costs...

The Tiler combined his cost with the plumber (his son)..

Good savings with some planning and phone calls. And makes life easier when the plumber and tiler are a package deal!

So... What's next? Bathroom or kitchen? Will you just replicate the ensuite Work to bathroom? I'll have to jump over and jog my memory. There was room to make bigger and redesign.

I'm still deciding on what to do next.. As the kitchen is a much bigger job (requires me to remove tiles throughout the house and be without a kitchen for so time as well as some structural work in the roof), ill probably do the other bathroom next... it would be great to have them both done by December.

The idea is too just replicate the ensuite.. the only thing i need to look into is a bath, a double shower (i have 3 young kids) and removal of a dry wall (which i dont think is load bearing.)

I'll probably start a new thread shortly..
