Got my 2nd quote back, which excludes the filling of the window (and replacing with new). It also excluded supplying the shower screen, vanity, toilet, tapware (but he will obviously fit them). It also excluded the minor electrical work (additional plug etc). The total cost is $3900.

I recon if i did the demolition myself i could knock it down by a further $500-750.

I guess by supplying my own items for half the price, i would be looking around the $12,500 mark. Potentially doing the demolition and window myself, i would closer to the $10k i was looking the figure to be around

    On the $14k quote..

If i supplied my own pc items (quoted for about $3680),did my own demolition (quoted for $500) and did the window myself (quoted for $1000), it would leave me about $5100 to do the above and the tiler would do the rest for about $9000.

Yup, this guy would purely do the tiling and fitting side of things.. i could then arrange my own electrician to add additional power points, fit IXL lights etc

Hes definitely on the top of the list so far

How much light do you get, eg bed1, with a 5.5m verandah?

Are you referring to the ensuite of the house in general?

I guess it comes down to how much can you do vs how much you have to pay others to do. I find that when I tried to do stuff myself it was never as good as the pro's. Also you have to price your time.

Agreed.. but from the last two quotes i received, if i compared the "like for like" service, in terms of the work they will do, quote 1 was $3900 (install only) v about $9,000 (install only) for quote 2.

Im still scratching my head as to why quote 2 was $5000 more as it only included a few basic plumbing work, electrical etc.

In terms of the work i can do, i will definitely attempt the demolition as well as "project manage" other tradies etc.

I am still looking at completing the whole job (mostly done by tradesman) for around $8k (or less).

Agreed.. but due to shower location, i dont think i would want to go much bigger without the shower taking over the entire ensuite. As i plan to have new vanity very close to wall (closed up window), i might use the addtional space for bigger vanity.

Current shower is 860 x 830, so 1000 x 1000 will seem heaps bigger even with a diamond shape.

Toilet I'm looking at would be something like this:

The shower i showed you doesnt actually come with a base, its just setup like that in their display rooms. Shower would sit on tiled floor

    Ah no base is good.
Go a 1200 shower, well compromise ;) treat yourself you'll need it after doing the ensuite!
A handy idea if you like, put masking tape down for the foot print of the new vanity, shower to get a feel for sizes

Yeh ill do that and speak to seller about bigger options. A 1200 leaves about 600mm between the doorway and shower, so maybe an 1100 might be the sweet spot. Need to find out widths of the 3 glass panels of the shower

I think we're running the shower different ways or sizes, check my sketch. I'm talking about a 1000x1500 shower
