Australian broker to buy US index funds

    I am looking for recommendations for an easy to use Australian broker to buy US index funds. I am looking for a broker who will support the ability to short the index funds.

    I am also keen to know if you buy an US index fund managed by an Aussie company (iShares Aus, CommSec) do you have to file taxes in US because you are investing in US indexes or no need to do that because you are not directly buying from an US registered broker?
