I think we should have a bonfire with whatever is left of our ability to refine oil, or, in fact, lets get rid of everything, we can be first to be oil free.:)

We are headed for war, all these decades of disabling our ability to be self sufficient will prove a bad policy.

We are very venerable, on almost all fronts.

PS...start using legs now so if needed can still collect a feed .....lol

Look how powerful the Sun is and what it does. Ultimately it will be humans primary source of energy, hopefully sooner rather than later with the right political will and tech, before too much more damage is done by burning fossil fuels.

Yes you are probably the only one, because it is not true. Australia has 55 days of fuel supply stored, It is short of the IEA's requirement of 90 days. 3 days supply is owned privately.

I hope you are correct, 2 days supply was mentioned in the paper a few months ago and I heard the same statement made early Friday morning on 1233 Newcastle ...

You really mean the Sun, or our Sun Herald ?

Your kind of thinking will have us done over by at least one nation, not due to being a nice ideal, but because none of them will play by these rukes and will be willing to take us. over

There us no point shooting yourself in the foot at the start of a marathon if the aim is to actually win, or finish....

Cant find it now but there was a great Bloomberg article in the last month about how "Rare Earths" aren't actually that rare....but people/locations willing to **** up their environment with the chemical extractions of those rare earths is - basically TLDR version is.....we let China produce these because no one else wants to compete on price/environmental issues.....but if China blocks the west from getting access......we'll be just fine and have to fire up production elsewhere.

What's the point of winning a marathon if you destroy the course and city in the process?

Solar is the obvious future. It seems a bit lame now, the tech is still evolving, it doesn't compete yet on many fronts, but it will. Fossil fuels have to go.

China is a growing military power, as are some others, they do not care about some things, well not enough to stop expanding.

Crippling oneself would be a a national security disaster.

It is not about doing nothing, it is about being pragmatic and orderly and measured.

I suspect most people who want everything quickly are contribuying just as much, or more, to damage than those who want orderly sensible change.

Went back to the AFR June 14 2019 "Since 2012, Australia has been in breach of its international obligations because we hold 55 days worth of fuel imports as opposed to the 90-day minimum set by the International Energy Agency (IEA)."

"...the highest (or near highest) quality of life for the average, everday person."

Our forefathers have handed us down an amazing soceity/civilisation, we should be grateful and look after it.
