What are you??? I think I must be both:)

If you have done a thorough evaluation and you are reasonably sure your principal is safe—and you have a chance to make a profit—you are investing.

If you are “investing” in an asset that has uncertain protection of principal—and you have a chance to make a profit—you are speculating.

I like to think I am an investor for properties but in relation to shares, even with the best intentions and hand on heart, I don't think I can be the next Warren Buffet quite yet.

I do both. Had a little flutter on outer west Melb for quick growth which seems to be paying off. Now may not be the smartest time though to be speculating on growth.

I am probably a speculator who tries to convince everybody that I am an investor.

It depends on your strategy and what works best for you. At the end of the day it does not really matter, because your aim is still to make money, unless you are a developer who actually creates something new.

    Both these days.

When I first started out I considered myself purely an investor. As I've accumulated more birthdays I came to acknowledge that speculation features in any buy and hold strategy. We may find the speculation card feature more in our property markets if any problematic chickens come home to roost.

I do development too. Does that make me jack of all trades, master of none? ;)

Let face it we are all speculators in one way or another. No different to those taking a weekly tattslotto ticket. Only difference is the viewpoint of what we are buying and what we hope it to achieve or win back.

Ultimately most want to worry less about money one day, and hope such purchases will make a profit at some point and we live a more happy and meaningful life.

If you had more money than you could possibly spend in your lifetime I don't think you would even worry about this forum nor speculate on buying any further property even if it was the deal of the century in your head.

We search for more hope and peace of mind etc. Some might do this through religion or charity work. Buying decent investment properties with decent prospects helps instill some more bubbles in ones head on being potentially more happy and hopefully it does assist if you buy right.

I would. Because I like taking run down properties and converting them to nice family homes. Once it is more than "just about the money", more money won't stop you doing what you love.

When starting out I was an amateur speculator.
These days I'd like to consider myself as a slightly skilled speculator.
One day I hope to be a highly skilled speculator.
