The RBA suggested official rates will remain at present rates. Indication was rates set by RBA may not change. Commonwealth stimulus etc is a more direct support plus lenders will address specific borrowers. Govt is funding much of it

My guess is once we're done with a low interest rate cycle and tons of stimulus etc, we are going to see rates tick up to levels most borrowers will find unbearable.

Lol - Italy is cooked mate. 600 dead in a single day and we are only marginally better off. We are lagging them by about 4 weeks the way things are going so wouldn't be too confident yet

The Italians failed to take action, we've gone into lockdown, closed borders, self-imposed quarantine etc when we only have a handful of dead.

Chatting with a mate earlier today, he said 3 from his father's town has died (all in the same family) - the town would have 600 people tops.

More than 99 per cent of people who died from coronavirus in Italy had pre-existing illnesses, according to the country's national health authority.

Researchers examined the medical records of about 18 per cent of Italy's nearly 3000 coronavirus fatalities and found just three patients, or 0.8 per cent of the total, had no previous pathology.

I agree it is not the time to be overly confident. We are in the early stages. However, it is also not the time for rash comparisons by claiming Australia is the next Italy. There are clear demographic differences that means it is less likely that what happened in Italy will happen here. We are also that much closer to an effective treatment.
