We should post some pics up?
This was at Kingscliff one day when my dad was trying out his new camera..
Unfortunately this one was a close out, but there were some really nice glassy ones coming through that morning.

Still haven't managed to get out on the board yet..

Over the weekend I went to met some mates for a day on the beach at Burleigh heads, so took my board with, however, there was little surf and was blowing gales! We did get there around lunchtime (which im told is when thee wind picks up).

I remember as a kid when I surfed for a few years, I could quite easily predict the surf by simply having an idea of the swell, tides and well wind direction (and speed).

I have only just moved to Brisbane, but what advice could any locals give me when planning a day out surfing? Is there a surf report hotline i could before i drive to the closest beach?

I am planning a camp on the sunshine coast in the next few weeks, where we will spend 2 days and 1 night somewhere near Alexandra Heads, so hopefully I'll be able to get out over those 2 days.

    Get out tomorrow morn!

It was pumping today in SE QLD - just spent 3 hours at the groyne in Noosa. The wind has picked up now though.

The swell should stick around until the end of the week hopefully.

    Cheers

    Jamie

    My advice for surfing on the goldie;

Summer - you have to start early!!! To avoid the crowds but also the onshore winds which can pick up as early as 7.. and the extreme UV rays which can fry you in minutes. There's still 2.5hrs surfing before 7

Unless you're an advanced surfer, forget about the points like burleigh.. it can be too agro and fighting the current will waste most of your energy.

No need to look at swell direction or wind in summer, just find a fave beachbreak to hit as early as possible.

Winter is your friend. Way less crowds, less UV rays, the waves are more 'barrelly', and you can be lucky to have offshore winds all day. Winter is when you could be more selective about points vs beachbreak depending on swell size/direction.

Finally managed to get on the board this weekend. We camped at Cotton Tree holiday park (Sunshine Coat) and I was able to surf on both days.

Its been over 20 years since I last surfed and I was really surprised at how easy it came back to me. I spent more time standing up and riding the face of the wave than I did wiping out. Its probably becuase i was on a 7.8 mal, which was much easier than the boards i learnt to surf on 20 years ago.

Cant wait to get out there again!

Went to the Goldie once, way too crowded. It gets crowded down here in Vic too; but in winter, if you drive a couple hours West, you can get some world class reef breaks all to yourself.

There’s a caravan park in Noosa near the river - that’s close to main beach and the points in the national park.

That’s the only one I know of.

If you’ve got a 4WD you could head to north shore and find your own little part of paradise to camp and surf.

    Cheers

There were still some 2-3 foot waves to be found if you ventured to sheltered corners...

Decided to paddle out at cooly on Sunday/Monday... Almost drowned on Sunday and snapped a leash on Monday all for two or three good waves between both sessions... Still worth it though ;)

I don't understand the need to tow surf when it's 6 ft. Can't they just paddle like everyone else? Some of the footage I have seen is pretty sad really. It was 6ft down here on the weekend and I didn't see any jet skis.

A surfing thread for property investors!
    Classic.
    Love it.
I am a Sydney based surfer (though my surfing soul is based on south coast nsw). Did a day trip to Royal National Park today - scored some smooth shoulder high right handers, peeling for 200m with only half a dozen semi-retired 50+ year olds, so super friendly in the lineup.

Perfect! I love those sort of mellow sessions - especially when then line up is full of good vibes.

    Cheers
