Any thoughts on what suburbs going to get the biggest boast by this? AMAZON CONFIRMS RETAIL OFFERING COMING TO MELBOURNE WITH GIANT FULFILMENT CENTRE
Exciting time to be a consumer for sure. Though, with lower prices and margins - that means official interest rates have a better chance of staying out of sight yeah?
Has anyone built a package safe drop for their IP or PPOR? Between amazon and meal delivery services it's something we're lookibg into for our build
Onsite Fulfilment jobs in Amazon are mostly min wage workers and ever increasing robots, so not much to be excited as a property Investor. On the other hand In just a couple of years the other retailers will start feeling the pinch of amazons amazingly efficient delivery and lower margin products and then they will start firing their better paid staff. So Initially it may be boost in number of jobs with stagnant pay and then in a year or two both jobs and pay will start falling in retail Australia wide.
I was reading yesterday that all of this cheap retail is causing inflation to stagnate, and this means the RBA are unable to raise interest rates due to the lack of inflation.. Sort of good news for investors, in the sense that its helping keep interest rates low, whilst causing house prices to surge..
Appears 3 Sydney based jobs currently advertised around web development & a couple of pages of jobs around Melbourne for various roles & the fulfilment centre announced to service Aus wide. Would say it appears unlikely to be a Sydney fulfilment centre.
my understanding is Melbourne will be national and then each major state will have their own. i dont know where tho. they will fill melbourne before they fill sydney.
Nothing amazing sadly. Only a few categories. Videogames are pretty cheap though. $49 for newest pS4 games while they're $60+ elsewhere. Give it some time- its only day 1
nothing so exciting about them so far... you can just order from multiple stores and get a free delivery together its kind of an aggregation
Some articles are saying over time when sellers start listing for a larger range of categories the prices would naturally come down. makes sense. Amazon has launched in around 16 markets before Australia... They should know what they're doing. It'll take some effort to change people's habits away from a quickie ebay buy or JB/Good Guys visit though. We'll see how the year ahead goes.
