    Hi all,
Do you think I can add grills/bars to my windows?
As a safety feature, rather than just having a glass sliding doors on windows.

    Does council approve it?

No different to adding a roller shutter I guess.

If the house was on fire though you could roll up tbe shutter and jump out the window though !

Why not go for a more attractive fix than grills or bars?

We had grills on every window where we live now, and it worried me a lot about fire. We had one that opened. We rather quickly removed many of them, but still wanted to leave windows open so kept them on bedrooms for several years.

We swapped them out for metal plantation shutters, which give security and privacy and look so much nicer than grills.

On our development we had to add fall-safe screens (look like crimsafe) to stop a child falling out a window (45kg limit I think), but can be cut open with a bit of force in the event of a fire. These were all we needed as our house was so high that it was unlikely anyone would hack their way into the house.

Will it be a problem when I try to sell the property?

How many nearby properties have bars on the windows?
Do you think potential buyers might ask why?

Which area in Sydney is it?
Do other homes in this area have it?
    What does your insurer say?
( you may be able to negotiate a discount?)

    I hope this helps

As long as you don’t run 240 volts through them.

Potential buy may think of higher crime rate on the street/area
