I found an iPhone as I was riding to work this morning, locked so I cant access the phone book to call someone and find the owner.

I'll have to wait for someone to call it.

A tip though, on my phone I have my partners number written on the lock screen as an emergency contact in case I get cleaned up out on a run or ride, occurred to me this morning this also serves as a contact if I lose the phone and someone is kind enough to hand it back.

I used an app to add the number as text to a photo for the lock screen.

I’d suggest posting something about the lost phone found in your local areas Facebook group. Most areas have a community group.

Can you take the SIM out and put it in another handset? You'll at least find the phone number of the SIM, and also any contact saved on the sim.

you just have to put the iPhone in lost mode via iCloud and then you can type a message in that will show up on the lost phone

What app did you use to do the lock screen?
    Sounds like a great idea.
Else write the number on back of the phone?

I am i-literate. I'd find it simpler to put it in the bin.

I have tried the i-centric products and found them to be great sad paperweights, doorstops and useful to level the legs of tables at outdoor dining venues.

On my Samsung phone in the settings there's an option to enter contact info on the lock screen, and I'm sure it's possible on many other phones too.

On an iPhone you can have a emergency contact under the medical settings ID. Someone who found your iPhone can get the contact information out of there without unlocking your phone.

    Regards,

Thank you! I had no idea I could do that - have done it now. I am one of those people who just use my phone for email and messages and ignore all the other features. Cheers

The lock screen still sows the last notifications so I was able to call a number that was on the screen, found out the owners name, got a message to him via the guy on the notifications screen and he called me. Said he was hours away from dropping a grand on a new one! He'd left it on top of his boat when they'd been fishing. Pure luck I fond it and it still worked.

Good tip about the ICE contact, but I wonder who would know to look for it and how?

Thanks for the update, a happy ending!

The ICE contact simply shows on the lock screen whenever it's locked.

@Gockie not as intuitive on the iPhone it seems, I've just set mine up, you have to do it in the Apple Health app. It doesn't show on the lock screen you have to tap "emergency", then in the bottom left corner there's a little "Medical ID" which you can tap and brings the details up. If you don't know about the feature or weren't an Apple user I'd question how many people would find it.

The App I used @Wanttoretire was just called ICE one of the features is "create wallpaper", really easy, just choose your lock screen photo and it pastes a copy of the emergency contact details over it, saves it to your photo's then use that as your lock screen.
