Port Arthur is beautiful if not a bit sad. You have to try out the food in Aloft on Brook street pier. Ask for the pigs ears. Cascade brewery is worth a visit. Up the coast a bit is frecycinet, wine glass bay. You can't go past that!

I don't realise until I visited that I grew up with one of the victims.

I second a lot of the recommendations already given: Mt Wellington, Mt Field National Park (Russell Falls but can do a 6km circuit around all three waterfalls), Freycinet and Wineglass Bay, Cradle Mountain.

In Hobart I like Mt Nelson Signal Station, great views, very close to town and they have the best scones at the Brasserie there.

Gotta do a stroll around Battery Point too, have a bite to eat at Jackman McRoss.
Daci and Daci bakery is great too.

If you're driving through Ross, stop and get vanilla slices, ah-mazing.

Plenty of places for hikes/walks too if that's your thing?
Anyway, enjoy, plenty to do! Hope the weather holds out for you ;)

I think Bruny Island is amazing! Food, scenery, adventure.. It has it all. Try one of the Pennicott tours next time!

I was thinking more of the time factor. The meal we had on Bruny was terrible, hence why I stated it was just "more of the same" considering the landscape. I was there for two days earlier this year and have spent a lot of time in the south of Hobart so didn't see the value of prioritising Bruny Island over anywhere else in that region.
We settled in for the night and so chose not to travel back to the rookery but I would recommend time to see the penguins if you go there. The ferries don't run to penguin time. Here is the view from our cabin.

If you have a car, drive to Richmond for coffee.
