    Hi All,

I recently purchased a 4x4 and at the time the dealership offered me the below for $2000:

    E-Rust
    Underbody protection
    Window tinting

I do intend on driving on beaches, through water so it be worthwhile getting the above ?

If yes, should I go for their product or are there superior on the market?

    Cheers,
    Robbie

Go to one of the after market guys for comparatives (or screw the dealer on price).

I wonder if it’s worth it on a second hand car?

Just reading the ‘extended warranty’ info. online:

Extended warranty covers for 10 years from manufacture date of vehicle and only for ‘rust through’ not corrosion. Have to have official annual inspections for warranty to remain valid...and is voided by salt water, the beach...

Electronic Rust Protection is absolute rubbish. What sort of underbody protection?

I can send you some great contacts for window tinting and REAL rust protection if you'd like?

Pump the body full of fish oil just like the good old days.

Spray under the vehicle with Lanoguard lanolin spray and then while it's wet drive on a dusty road. Creates a protective layer that is hard to get off even with degreaser. Don't skip the dusty road part or you'll have sand stuck to the car instead.
Mother nature will always win in the end and no matter what you do you are only slowing down the rate of corrosion not stopping it.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I sprayed my Land Rover with fish oil for my birthday trip to Double Island Point in November last year. It stank for WEEKS, and I STILL haven't managed to get it all off- it mixes with the sand and turns to rock!!!

Pretty much, two cans would be enough to do under most 4x4's. Looks a bit dirty under the vehicle and it will not come off so might not be suitable for the café cruiser but it does give good protection.

Electronic rust protection is snake oil, scientifically impossible for it to work unless your car is submurged in water for an extended period of time, in which case you have bigger problems. Underbody rust protection can be ok if done properly, but just thoroughly hosing the underbody off with fresh water after every off road trip seems to do the job ok for me. I would not get any of this stuff done at a dealer though, likely to be overpriced and not very well done.
