Go check out the Ford dealership. I had a moment a year ago whilst looking for a new car, but quickly decided that I'd break it with my scuba gear. Bought a monster truck instead. :)

Why? Surely they are entitled to our tax dollars!!!!

Isn't that why we work so hard, take calculated investment risk, ... :)

Isn't this just a typical lottery player would react to a big win?
I would expect there would be a very small percentage of financially educated people playing lotto, who would then know how to make good use of the winnings.
Can't really judge people when you're not in their shoes.

good point, I have played lotto about 2 or 3 times in my life, all times I asked for the minimum priced ticket. I was not even that financially educated at the time either :)

I'm thinking financially educated people are less likely to play lotto and scratchies. So yes....

I remember a teacher saying "I've paid tax for the last 10 years in entitled to take a year off on the dole"

Was the second time they had done it.

I asked about getting the dole once (after being made redundant at Amex - my first serious professional job) but I had already accumulated too many assets. Damn!!!

Nothing surprises me anymore these days mate. Absolutely nothing. Personally I really value the old school guys and gals and their attitude, philosophies etc.. my dads era..They had real value in those days. Nowadays its all political correctness, entitlement, we want what we want and we want it now, whingers and whiners. And its pervasive in much of society unfortunately. It's really up to the parents now to teach and instill the right values and core beliefs in their kids.

Supposedly this couple were supposed to be doing it tough financially.

    Apparently they won the $200,000 on a $20 scratch-it ticket. I am not poor but I have never bought a $20 scratch-it.

According to Sunrise, the female used to buy a scratch-it ticket at least once a week and the male used to buy $200 books of tickets multiple times a week. WTF.

I hope they get financial advice before they blow the lot.

    It's the way things are....
A friends sister won a large amount on lotto when she was 18... then spent the lot within a short time. And not on buying assets like a house.

But don't worry... as landlords, we need tenants...

I agree, when we were younger we seen our parents bring home an envelope full of cash, pay for things out of it, watch it become less etc.
Us kids saved up our coins, learn't that if we blew it all on lollies we'd never save up enough to buy a record, skate board etc.
However these days little Jonny & Sally are watching mummy & daddy swipe a plastic card in a magic machine, they also may have their own, no physical cash to balance.

When our kids were younger (now in their 30's), whenever we used to tell them that we didn't have enough money to buy something, they used to tell us to "go to the ATM and get some more".

I look forward to the day when I can "plant" this idea in my grandchildren's heads :).

A friend of my dad's won like 500k (or something like that) at Crown Casino in Melbourne. As part of the prize, they give you a few nights in their hotel as well. The cash was gone before he got home.

I buy the occasional lotto ticket (maybe once every 3 months or so) and usually get one of the smallest tickets. I'm always surprised by the people buying the really expensive ones that are like half a metre long :p

Too liquid. .. he'd probably cash them in... shares are only for the disciplined. Of course, he could speculate, but that's different altogether.
Houses are good for the stupid. ;)
