I am a director and founder of an advisory, taxation and consulting business in Perth CBD. Our business has one focus - we make family owned businesses great.
- Director - Westcourt Chartered Accountants
And a diversified engaged and active property investing family is just like somebody running a business.
I have no conflicts. I do not sell anything. I no barrow to push. You will not find me also selling life insurance , home loans or managed funds. My advice is independent, impartial and unbiased. Nothing I do is conflicted, prejudiced and biased. So you know that I only give an honest answer.
And if I recommend somebody else I do not ask them for a "spotters fee". I only refer because the people I refer will help.
There is nothing wrong with a broker. However your most trusted advisor should not be conflicted.
Proven tax excellence
And I sit on the National SME Technical Tax Committee for The Tax Institute. And their is only two of us from WA. So sitting on a national tax lobby group does not mean that I am the best at tax law advisory - but it does show that I have some capacity to provide a good outcome.
An understanding of family
Property ownership will typically involve some type of family involvement. The succession of ownership or management responsibilities to the next generation is an important strategy step in a portfolio.
And succession is not just a case of a document prepared that takes 27 pages. It will involve a use of culture, communication and a clarity of your financial position.
And as an accredited Family Business Advisor I have a depth of knowledge on how families work and the tools you can use (financial, cultural, legal and social) to facilitate the succession.
So you can get a rounded practical solution.
An interview of me
I gave an interview to the Family Business Show a while back. It is a discussion of who I am and why. It can be found here and it at least "puts a face to my name".
My personal property portfolio includes commercial, residential, land banking and, more importantly, I act for some astute families that have property developments that will impact the fabric of WA for decades. I also have a good spread of equities through ETFs as well as business interests.
The presence of chat forums like this is fascinating to pick on market chatter and get an immediate feel of the market and how people are thinking. It is also a nice way to give back to the community.
