Hi there, our garage ceiling collapsed (20%) beneath the gutter following a couple of days of the storm. can a storm cause the ceiling to collapse and how?
Could be water leaking onto the prick. This will loosen the screw fixings which will cause it to sag and eventually collapse. You will need a plasterer to attached a new ceiling.
The roof should be examined and may well need to be replaced. If one part of the roof leaks then the rest may be at the end of its useful life. Check the structure too. A slow leak over time can cause damage. My house roof was quite old and I replaced the entire roof with Colorbond, much more secure.
Definitely it will collapse if the gutter is blocked and the downpipes also are blocked.. Then depending on how the drainage is set .. Did this collapse just around the downpipes or along the internal ceiling grid.. Sounds like it's back flowed due to the gutters blocking and unable to take the high water flow rate but I could be wrong.. If you can post a photo as it may explain more.
